    Hi, folks!

That's my entry for this month. Enjoy!

@theconnactic great stuff, my favourite of yours by far. Love the the lead guitar tone, those high notes at the 1:49 mark are amazing. My only complaint is that I wanted the fast lead break to go on for a lot longer. It would be great to hear more of your acoustic playing in future as well.

Thank you so much, @orchardman. By the way, four years ago, I used to update an Youtube channel i with my arrangements for solo acoustic guitar renditions of known standards: here it is: https://www.youtube.com/user/oneatheist

If you want to listen to one of these arrangements right away, here it goes:

    Hi Connatic,

Very inspiring! The whole song had a dramatic and sharp tone which I really liked. I like of course the lead guitars ( was it recorded with any amp simulator or directly recorded from a real amp?). The drums sound great even the eq seems perhaps on my taste I little bit too high on the higher frequencies ( but that's my taste). Also directly recorded or done with any app?

    Thanks for sharing! Great!

Thank you for the review, @AlexB: the guitars were made with a cheap Washburn guitar and Auria's built-in Overloud THM plug-in, which is frequently underrated. The question about the drums was in itself one of the biggest compliments I ever received here, since they passed as real drums for you, when in fact they were laboriously programmed in DrumPerfectPro. About the EQ, I love it bright, and I always reference my mixes against songs from Stevie Wonder's Innervisions (this time, Living for The City) to get my hiHats right and tight.

May I ask you how is your workflow with DPP? Do you prepare all patterns in DPP and then export them as wav the whole song to your DAW?

How do you make to sync that each pattern fits inthe right place in the song?

Sorry the belated answer, I haven't seen this post until now: I always program inside Auria (using Lyra drum kits), and then just make the drum track control DPP via MIDI (Open DPP, and in Auria channel strip set MIDI out to DPP, MIDI channel 10), but assigning the MIDI instrument to OFF. Then I adjust the necessary notes in the piano roll - because Lyra's drum kits are mapped slightly different than DPP - until it sounds right. Finally, I create 16 AUDIO channels, assigning one to a different DPP output in the IAA list, and record them simultaneously in groups of four (recording more than four simultaneous tracks will cause awful latency in my iPad air).

    Hope that helps!
    All the best,
    Dimitri.

@Bluepunk thanks for all your kind words :)
So to answer your questions : around 7:00 I'm using Arpeggionome, a fantastic arpegiator. It drives DRC synth and also play his internal sound at the same time. I need to practice more, but yeah it's good fun to play with ! (I'm also pleased to finally having something that works all together...I've been working on this for months...)
Around 9:00 yeah I'm literally seeing the track crashing... :dizzy: Well, fortunate it's just music...
But the good news is I've made some improvements with the stability yesterday, and also learned a few tricks to play more live.
All this is a kind of super controller instrument, I can add options on different level, and I've added a lot, I need to remember they're existing, and learn how to play with them...

For the next videos I'll try to be in sync with the image (it bored me to edit too much...I just add a filter with imovie) and also add a camera in the back to show more how I perform. I also try to have a better full view. (in fact I'm using a mic stand, with the iphone on top of it, and it's really on top of it, and it's difficult to get a nice angle...)

Thank you. I am a luddite. I remember watching the master of live performance @supadom & his jaw dropping skills when I jumped into the hot tub of SOTMC last year. Glad you will be making more of these & I really look forward to experiencing them in the future. "A super controller instrument" is a great way to explain it. Begins to make sense to my sparse brain. Thanks again for your time & answers. Sounds like you're making strides improving the areas in which you want to. Good on ya. :)

Ok, I got it but thanks! then how you control then features like right stroke or choking? I supose then you can't neither apply the probabilities part between A and B set ups, or a miss something?

    All the best

  • You guys are going to hate how late and inactive I've been but I-must-keep-going-
    I'm playing catch up today.

Here is my track for August

  • @TGiG Your artwork & song go together like itchy & scratchy. I found myself trying to work out what young Cecil is sat thinking about, by listening to your music. What were your weapons of choice on this tune? What instruments/apps? It's a powerful, thoughtful song. Mucho deepness & intensity. Claustrophobia circles above.

Took me to a place where the once human Cecil takes the plunge & volunteers to become machined by choice. But now, 1 year later, he asks himself did he make the correct decision? Lost his family, pets & Saturday nights in Wetherspoons. His "new" silver coloured mates don't like him either. Suicide? Can't go back now mate...you are Cyborg. Get yourself down to Arthur's Autos for an oil change & spanner rash. Go relax.

Came away feeling sympathy. Your music & the pictures it creates emphasises the sadness I feel for our mate. Congrats on squeezing out this emotion. Love what music does. :)

Something martially operatic in this. A few stragglers walk along to be progressively joined by their ragtag fellows. The robotic poor without precise destination. The stereo buzzing that comes in after halftime is particularly effective against the rest of the canvas.

  • @Halftone Nice beat there! I love the flutey arp thing in the middle.

@Lostboy85 Classic. Makes me want to get my ass on the floor! I seriously enjoy this track!

@AlexB Wow, I really love this song! The melody is wonderful. Great sounding production too. Well done!

@theconnactic Man, I really am a fan of your work! I love the random percussion, the creepy minor notes, the cringy distorted guitars and the twists the song takes. Bravo,

@JohnnyGoodyear I think this is your most musical bit of singing that I've heard yet! And I have to say that might be my favorite! What's brilliant is how you're singing like it's a cowboy country song but the music is so different. However it works...very well.
    Great stuff, Thank you!!

@Igneous1 Lovely track! I love what you've done with Kamata! My favorite part is the "breakdown" at 2:04.

@perestroika Wow, I thoroughly love this track! I especially enjoy the "uneasy" sounding lead. Great stuff, thank you!

Haha, thank you! All Gadget but the volcaloid thing near the end was iDs-10.
I used Bilbao, Helsinki, Phoenix, Dublin, Miami, and Kamata

  • Thank you so much for your feedback @JohnnyGoodyear !

  • @Snekula Damn, this is a wonderfully inspiring project. I love the dark, hypnotic feeling the track has and the visuals are perfect! Well done!

@fauxen Wow, what a breath of fresh air! I absolutely love how you tackled this project! I can see this as an ad on the tele. Very cool!

@Ochardman Another rock solid song. I think it's so beautiful that you get to create timeless, moving, art with your soulmate. I love it!

@jbvdb I totally dig this track! My favorite is the lead that comes in at the 1:00 mark and the long outro!

@studds1966 hmm, your link isn't working on any of my browsers. Can you send me a link to your soundcloud?

@raindro Beautiful atmospheres you've created here! I especially love when the beat cuts in! I only wish it was longer!

@richardyot And another brilliant, quality track from the mighty Richard! The flanger lead bit starting at 1:30 is awesome! Is that all guitar or did you throw something else in there? Thank you for this fun track!

@trackdout The 90's are back full force and this track, like totally takes me back bro. It's reminiscent of Nirvana and the Chillipeppers, and coming from me, that's a huge compliment! I really love this track!

@JeffChasteen Dude! You made the Cathouse Regulars on an iPad?! It's so awesome! I just keep playing it!
Medicine Again has a great trippy vibe to it and sounds like it'd be a great intro. I hope you revisit it someday soon and give us more!

@AlexB Such a great track with some wonderful production you've got there! As a drummer, personally I would go in a different, more sparse direction with a bit more changes but what you've done works really well! I totally dig it. And hey, rules are meant to be broken eh?!

@oddSTAR Wow this song is so pretty, delicate, happy, and uplifting! It's really a joy to listen to, thanks!

@marliess Haha Trump Me this song's brilliant! I love what you've done! Thank you!
(Btw I love your song Fly too!)

@Bluepunk You sir are genius! I love how diverse your sonic palette is. You have such a great imagination with excellent technical to follow through and execute. This track absolutely kills and I am thankful to add it to my Bluepunk collection!

@crony Who are you hiding from?! Just kidding, I totally dig the ensemble, in fact you should wear that when you perform! It's so cool to see the live production unfold. I really like the track, especially the dark bass and the echoey horns. Well done!

Thank you very much! I am actually considering resampling some parts and reworking it a bit into more of a finished piece.
And agreed @crony! Sweet getup and performance!

Cool textures and sound design, if a little lacking energy maybe, although if that's intentional disregard!

Tried to create a dance track. hahahahahahahahaha! Surely this time. It must be cos good old Wendy from the W.I. actually moved a finger to this one. Never happened before. Good sign. That she offered me some of her prize pecan pie only cemented the "thumbs up" she gave. She is getting on a bit so the ears don't get the full audible mess!

Where as Lostboys dancing track this month is charismatic, classy club.........this isn't. More drums without the bass. More slab of concrete than illuminated disco dance floor. I wheeled out Cyclops to try again. Impossible to tame with my very, very limited synth exposure but i love it. Mental bugger. I was getting the shakes after no guitarism for 2 months so a small bit at the end. Even i have standards to keep up......yeah, i know .....LOW ;)

Wild, not sure I could listen to a whole album, but it's got the energy going for it for sure! Like an electronic sex pistols or something!

Man, I gotta say it's a good set of submissions this month, and I'm loving the variety of styles covered by this group. It's about midnight here so I gotta sleep but I'll swing back around shortly and offer my thoughts on 'em gladly. Here is my submission for the month, though...I finally got married on 7/30 to my love of the past 10 years and wrote this for her...as it surely feels like I've been waiting all my life to be this happy. Hope you enjoy!

Edit: Forgot to mention it was made in Gadget, exported to Auria to record Steel Guitar tracks and finally polished a bit in Audio Mastering...so pure iPad joy. ;)

Nice man, cool chill vibe, liking this!

uploaded an unfinished track - - but its not made on ios though. does that count? if no then i am prepared to be burned alive. yes. first public song i have posted anywhere ever. i feel like a hermit coming out of its cave tripping on its long beard.

It doesn't reall go anywhere, especially on the drums front, and it needs more polish, but I really like that chorusy synth sound, it reminds me of some NIN stuff.
Cool for a first track tho! Keep it up

  • There, did some catching up, missed some skipped others, when are we doing this for September?

  • Catching up with feedback:

@oddSTAR nice tune, lovely sequenced melodies and good choice of sounds. Would be good to hear more of a human touch in there though, it all feels like it's being played by tasteful robots. Nice melodic evolution to the track though, it really soars towards the end.

  • edited September 2016

@JeffChasteen of the two I thought I liked Medicine Again the best, I like the riff and the overall slightly unhinged atmosphere in the track. It would have been good if it went somewhere though, it's a little too repetitive for me, I think some evolution would have really given it a lift.

  • @Bluepunk hilarious blend of punk and dance, as if Jilted John had dropped an e and then wondered what the fuck he was supposed to do next. The drums are way too disjointed for it to count as a dance track though, but they do convey the sense of bewilderment of the old punk in the story and his culture shock at a dance club. Of course I am sure that the song is in no way autobiographical...

Of course not............. ;) Thanks for your comments. I'm trying hard to create a feel that is dance....but not. Don't know where it will end up but I'd be surprised if you're not twerking to the next anti Ibiza anthem ready to be dropped into the Juke box of jocoseriousness. I will get there.......... :) Cheers.
