I did not try it yet (I updated just before leaving to work)... But what I read in this thread is making me really sad... I was desperatly waiting for this update almost only because I really thought it would be possible to record from other apps in Gadget (via IAA/AB)... And it seems that it's not possible... So disapointed right now !

I think it's time for me to test KRFT and/or Caustic ;-)

I'm thinking you could use AUM to record straight in to AudioShare using LINK to be controll Gadget - then you can paste directly from AudioShare into Zurich.

Not as simple as recording directly in Gadget, but it might work?

I'll try that tonight... It might be a solution, thanks man ;-)

    I was out last night!!!

    Just downloaded.

All working as expected with audio tracks!

So you did not expect to be able to record from other iOS apps and/or other Gadget tracks ?

I didn't actually. I hoped it might but saw no evidence that it would.

For me it makes hardly any difference anyway. You just use audioshare as an extention to Gadget. (The audioshare integration is such a good feature now!).

You can set your third party app playing along with Gadget (linked) and then record into audioshare. Trim in audioshare to taste - then import into Zurich. That's hardly any difference to recording direct into Zurich.

Plus in audioshare you can add IAA effects etc if you want to.

The ease of going back and forth between audioshare now is amazing. Just think of it as Gadget having a nice audio editor built in just a couple of taps from the Zurich Gadget.

This sounds very nice... Now we will just have to motivate the Audioshare dev to add functionalities to his already wonderful audio editor ;-)

Yeah Blocs is now made for Gadget friendship.

Mess with sounds in Blocs. Send them all to AudioShare. Import what you want into Gadget. It's so easy. I can see most my ideas starting in Blocs and then just going to Gadget to take further. If I ever get something I really like, then I can take it to Auria Pro.

Exactly. Auria Pro + Blocs + Gadget + Audioshare = Superfriends

I think Blocs might also provide a fairly easy way of adding silence to your audio file too.

Yeah already doing that. It's quite easy to get a sound where you want it between Blocs and AudioShare.

Yes and no. Especially with voice or other one off samples I'd really like to be able to move them minutely and by eye/ear. I guess I'm also getting my head around the fact that Zurich is a one-sample-per-track deal. Still happy to have it compared to not having it yesterday :)

I just purchased AUM to support him  Not sure how much I'll use it, was hoping to use it as a recorder for Gadget, using Link to sync them up - but I forgot that Link does not start other apps, it only syncs the beats - so I'll need to start Gadget, then switch to AUM to record :disappointed:

I've not had chance for a real play yet....One sample per track....does that mean if i have a song the has a guitar in it, and that guitar plays verse, chorus and solo, I'd need to use 3 Zurich tracks for it ? (or more if I want a section of the guitar to be more than 16 bars)

Yes, it's not the ideal. It is quite easy for some ways of working. Most my beats are coming from snippets that end up in Blocs. I just have to imagine where the vocal sample appears around one of the beats. If it then sounds too early or late in the actual track in Gadget, it's not a major problem to make adjustments in Blocs or AudioShare by moving the vocal audio. Yeah it could be easier with the right tools in Gadget without a doubt.

But next week? My experience is little cludges and workflow limitations make me drift away from using an app, after the initial excitement has worn off.

Might as well just import your normal
Gadget stuff into Auria and overdub audio tracks into that, and then you can tweak them to your hearts comtent.

Don't want to be a party pooper but I can't see the point of using such a limited audio Gadget, when there are better options available.

  • Yes please, enlighten him so that I also see the light... Because if what @Peter321 says is true, then the workflow proposition of using AUM + AS to record external apps in Gadget is not working that good (even if I tend to think that you could probably put an extra bar at the beginning of the Gadget Track so that you have enough time to start Gadget and switch to another app to Jam... no ?).

I would agree for many ways of working, but for putting some audio segments into Gadget as I use it as a backing track player and live keys in AUM, it works better than it once did. So while, it may be frustrating to many. The way I'm using it, has seen a major benefit from the update.

I'm sure for some however, it is not such a great update.

Only if your sample is less than 4 bars....the slicer only allows 4 bars total length...you could fudge it messing with the tempo.

I will use the audio gadgets to allow me to make a draft recording of something so that I can carry on building and arranging in Gadget...and then will move to Cubasis/Auria once I am ready for final recording...currently due to all the messing involved I haven't bothered with the drafts meaning I have pretty much limited my self to synths and MIDI. Even though they are not perfect by any means, these gadgets will bring my guitars much more into my music again :)

Might as well just import your normal
Gadget stuff into Auria and overdub audio tracks into that, and then you can tweak them to your hearts comtent.

Don't want to be a party pooper but I can't see the point of using such a limited audio Gadget, when there are better options available.

I agree in general, but the end result for me will be to enjoy the fiddle now and then, but still spend most of my time kissing other girls. I guess despite my monogamous tendencies iOS is largely still a polyamorous world...

    O you tart! :p

  • I can't believe so many people are unimpressed. Just being able to import 16 bars of audio is huge. Recording is easy enough although u need to turn off loop to not record over the beginning. Best way is to duplicate a scene a few times, turn off loop and record 3-4 takes and then edit and erase the extra scenes. Rosario has some pretty good sounds.

I do plan to use it more for rhythm stuff, recording sequenced external gear, arps, etc than intricate playing. Anything more involved it's easy enough to record elsewhere and drop in. 16 bars!!!!

Personally I'm loving the free update :)

    Two things people should know:

    • It's one piece of audio per clip. Not one per track. (And you can always have more instances of Zurich if you want more than one audio file per scene/clip).

    • If you want to use Zurich (within Zurich) to very precisely move audio around to match the timing of your song (as someone said above) you can actually do this I believe - you'd just need to add lots of silence (the same amount as the clip length) to the audio file and then bring it back into Zurich. You can then use the start and end buttons on the left hand side of the screen (not the braces) to nudge the sample back and forth in a very accurate way.

PSA for peeps that are sad about the lack of timestrech. If you have blocs. import there. set project tempo to what you desire in gadget. export to audioshare. import into gadget. problem solved.

Thanks for the tip - very useful indeed :+1:

Just to add though, the update did destroy most of my backing tracks! My fault for not backing up, but a pain none the less. Anyhoo, must write something new!

    Damn..that hurts...what happened to them ?

Completely gone! Never seen that before with an update of Gadget!

No major loss, they were pants!

Hmmm...I had this happen a while back, but then they came back again....I did not find out why.....I think it may have had something to do with iCloud. I guess you tried all the usual restart etc...

Agreed. The immediate frustration of the so close can sometimes be more noisy than the bigger picture pleasure...

Yeah all the usual. So I've started on a new song instead lol

I just really hope @j_liljedahl add a 'add silence' feature to Audioshare soon - and then we're really rocking...

Yes indeed, he's been quite on here of late, but appeared yesterday i think, hope he's listening to this now :)

  • I've just had success recording from my Yamaha MM6 keyboard via Behringer iStudio audio interface -- into both of the new audio gadgets (not at the same time...will try that later). The only trouble I had was, at first I had failed to enable the "Rec" button in the gadget's channel strip before starting the main record function (Duh!).

I set up several Gadget scenes with varying lengths (an 8 bar, a 16, then a 4 bar, etc), and recorded straight through, and happily the playback is seamless. I was afraid of a noise glitch or whatever as it moved from scene to scene, but that was not the case. I'm pretty happy with the recorded results.

This was on iPad4 on iOS 9.3!
