24 bit? what the big deal? is it higher quality sound, or faster processing? I am still learning. what should i be looking for and setting my Daw’s at?

Higher quality. Lots more dynamic range I believe.

And now With MIDI out, AU drum sequencers should be able to work the same way

    GarageBand has MIDI out now?

    awesome

  • does garage band function as an audio input in audiobus or aum?

No, you have to render out audio files. It can receive audio and MIDI, but can't output to anything. Unless something changed in the update that I am not aware of.

    Ok... A new standard?

Cool, how many kits are coming with it? Can you exchange single sounds or just change kits?

Think I saw like a dozen, seems to drive the ‘drum machine’..

Maybe someone can replicate this as a melodic sequencer... ok, StepPolyArp..

What I mean is AU in GarageBand can send MIDI to the host.

So an innovative AU drum sequencer could match or exceed GB’s

GB is the DAW/groovebox I install/delete the most. I just can't get comfortable with it's UI, but things like the Drummer & File sharing etc make it a gimme reinstall. Curious to see what all of these sound packs entail.

Exactly the same, it's currently uninstalled so will check out the latest next week when my replacement for a bricked (hardware fault) Pro arrives.

The drummer enhancements seem particularly nice.

Until then I have the first world problem of surviving with an iPad 2 ... Will slow down my appoholic tendancies at least ...

Is there a guitar multi-fx AU3 plugin which people can recommend?

    Tonebridge

  • Lots of good changes here. UI enhancements, more drum kits including the Taikos and a Latin drum kit. A koto which sounds beautiful. And the 24 bit audio rendering!

  • Finally showed up in UK App Store. It’s good to see that whatever small division of Apple is responsible for Garage Band continues to get it right. Bravo.

How about a great Acoustic Guitar Strummer with real strums.
That would be worth some € $£¥

Have you seen/heard the acoustic guitar pack for Sample Tank? It is a wonderful thing, and very realistic sounding right down to the squeaks,

  • Is it iOS 11 only ;

  • It’s great! Loads of cool new sounds for free and bye bye to ruismaker et all

11.1 to be fair. Am I a dum dum that I missed you can finally rename?

  • Garage band is getting to be very good! Think I need to spend some time getting to know it on the phone!

  • Ah, just found a problem. GB insists that Sensual Sax isn’t installed and therefore can’t be used as AU. Tried re-downloading SS, and relaunching GB, but got same problem. Anyone else getting this?

    Bit harsh.

  • I haven’t touched GB in years and always thought of it as a kind of alright piece of software. I have to say though that in the last few updates they’ve gone nuts with features and very cleverly made it heaven for the untrained. It is totally touch screen geared. The workflow is smooth and making music on it is a bliss.

It sits just in the right place for the uninitiated grown ups and the kids. I’m very impressed with the team of developers who are behind this.

The Latin doesn't pass muster either.

Real strums like in Virtual Guitarist?

Still not midi mapping for live loops (or almost the playlist of them) so makes it still unreliable for live gigs where hands are busy...

    I answer myself.

Ha, clever but ridiculous in the age of Bluetooth MIDI.

Say it to Apple. Live loops without any kind of remote control are useless for non-third-hand musicians

Yeah, good call, champ. Enough of these lightweight, innovative apps that are both immediately rewarding and complex. And which, as AU, are usable within GarageBand.

    Oh dis!

  • One day I hope Apple will add editing of automation-data at least for the touch-instruments.
(Good start would be Pitch-Bend and Mod-Weheel).

I've grown to like the UI-Style of Garageband :)
Per track non-destructive quantize is also pretty neat.

I was yelling it at Apple... I just think they are going for a different market with GB. Which is a shame but happily we have apps aimed at the "pro" market.
