Swipe up or down on a square in the drum sequencer with the chance button engaged to set the likelihood that it will sound (you also have to program something to happen on that square). So 100% it will sound every time, 0% never, and anywhere in between. It’s like that drum machine that used to exist long ago (pre ios7) but I can’t remember the name of it. It’s a way to create variety rather than the same pattern just repeating over and over.
Probability..
I really dig how the steps expand when you long press them while adjusting velocity, etc. that is brilliant UI design right there!
So, amongst all the lovelies any way to do simple quick fades yet?
No, @JohnnyGoodyear. Audio editing is still in the kindergarten in GB: I can see myself using it a lot more for creating a song (just made one) but all the heavy lifting will still need to be done in Auria.
Always interesting to read different perceptions.
Springsteen has never been comfortable speaking to the media, but is earnest and does try to use his influence well in terms of his songs and performance. For example, the meaning of ‘Born in the USA’ and the wise speech he made before the recorded live performance of ‘War.’
Liam Gallagher, to most people in the UK, is a gobby has been with a more talented brother.
Might as well be funny, ‘cause unless Noel lets him sing in a reformed Oasis, his days as a credible rock star are long gone.
I haven’t got a clue why I’ve used Noel as an example. I’ve always despised their arrogance but did enjoy that particular DID podcast. Musically Beatles have had a massive influence on my songwriting but that was like a primary school some 30 years ago. The river has taken many turns since then. To be absolutely honest, this days I don’t listen to albums anymore, which is a shame. Most of the time it is just some alt pop internet radio station like FIP or KCRW’s Eclectic 24. When I’m free though I tend to play as opposed to listen as most of the music is already in my head, if not it’s just because I don’t go out often enough. Am I talking about myself again?
The point I’m trying to make is that I’ve always been a rather reluctant fan boy. Maybe not always but definitely from 20yo onwards so I find these conversations rather labourious. That’s just me though.
I’m not using my memory nearly enough. Dementia will get me eventually.
Oddly enough, me too. I can honestly say there is no one whose works I universally adore, but very many - not all famous - I admire, and have been influenced by. The aforementioned Springsteen has written some fabulous songs, but also a load I find incredibly boring.
As a lyricist, there are a diverse bunch whose words and methods have taught me a lot: Bernie Taupin, Gil Scott-Heron, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Don Henley, Bob Dylan, LL Cool J, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and Patti Smith, to name but a few.
Does anyone here use GarageBand on the Mac to finish projects? Or is it always Logic?
Always Logic for me. GB for Mac is not that far ahead of GarageBand iOS.
Liam’s music largely stinks, but he really is one of the last ‘rock & roll stars’ and is massively entertaining.

Oh, for sure. The fact that he doesn’t realise he’s such a plonker is hilarious. In his day he was also good looking and charismatic, not so much now.
I find myself in Mac GB only for things like getting stems out. Otherwise I never even launch it.
his new album seems to be getting very favourable reviews though - first single I heard the other day off it was pretty strong.
This update is one I feel like I need to take a class for, but there are definitely a number of tasty features included. Don’t be surprised if I come back with a bunch of queries about what is what and how to do this-that-or the other thing - this is still the best forum I have ever been a member of!
Unacceptable!

Probably probability.
Where have the Alchemy presets gone in the new version of GB? I updated my iPad to the latest ios, updated GB, and I can't see any Alchemy submenu in the Keyboard choices.
how many GigaByte does the new GarageBand 2.3 use when all the sounds are downloaded?
With all the new sounds it must be quite a lot, now.
2,11GB on my Air 2 with everything downloaded and a dozen of sessions...
I think those have moved to the Synth submenu
@realdavidai
Hmm have they? Looking at the choices in the Synth submenu I was feeling that those were regular GB presets that were not part of the Alchemy section before. I suppose I had better make a comparison vs my SE which is still on ios 10.
damn, that is too small. It should be 5 GB at least - which would also mean many more sounds
So I guess about 500 MB more than the previous version.
Yeah, you ca see the download sizes(401MB in total for all extras) for the packs and how many sounds they include, it's also easy to remove packs if needed. I also have the 'Product Red' loops installed from a previous install...
I’m pretty sure. Because ‘Dusty Record Synth’ used to be in keyboards..I used it a lot and panicked when I couldn’t find it...but then there it was in Synths.
That would be like in GB on the Mac. There too, are no separate list of synths for Alchemy and others.
@thesoundtestroom : Great Video, Doug.. I agree 100%, it’s amazing.. And what a UI!
Does it have midi out?
Like many others here I have downloaded and deleted GB several times over the years but this is quite something and could finally be a keeper
