A few posts up IK mentions that there’s an issue with the IAP’s (on Apples end, so they say).

Maybe, but actual testing would have discovered this issue before release

And… with IAP actual testing is not possible! This is on Apple for failing to provide an adequate test environment.

The work-around some use is to hide (ie. mark not for sale) the full app once it's been approved.
Download it using a promo-code and test the IAPs, also using promo-codes.

This way you're getting the 'Release' version of the app and not the 'TestFlight build'.

But hey, every developer has their own way of doing things...

I only have the free version, I like the channel strip that comes with it. It’s a really interesting app, but it would be better if you could buy each fx separately, or split-up in packs like reverbs/delays/eq/whatever. Paying for fx you don’t need is a waste. The whole package is just so $$$, for the same money you can buy some really hq fx separately and still have enough money left for a six-pack of Dr. Pepper.

Having even a brief period where the app isn’t for sale is something of a downside!

Yeah but way better than dropping a release that doesn't work as expected no?

And they could via their marketing team announce the new version at a specific date when its functionality is verified.
This way those who are interested in the new version could wait until then to get it and that would not annoy existing users.

What puzzles me is that some companies fail with their launches / releases on a somewhat regular basis so it can't only be Apples fault.

But whatever, I'll stay clear of IK in the future when it comes to both hardware and software...

...I love my iRig iLoud Micro Monitors and the iRig Mic HD but the UNO Synth left a very sour taste in my mouth...

While iK should have learned a lesson (that their IAPs work differently during TestFlight than in the actual App Store) and should make sure and have people bang on the IAP stuff immediately after release -- and immediately acknowledge any pending issues. It is ALSO the case that Apple has some responsibility for the fact that the IAP doesn't behave the same in TestFlight and real life.

  • So the new Sunset Reverbs IAP is now visible in the MixBox app...
...who's gonna take them out for a spin and let us know how they sound?

I was hoping you would do the honors!lol

I just recently got Baby Audio Crystalline and feel it's a way better 'bang for the buck'

That answered my follow up question…

I have no idea what’s included with Sunset but I really like Baby Audios more-than-just-a-reverb Crystalline. I’m off to go find out more about what Sunset can do.

I think they’re IRs sampled from various spaces at Sunset Sound. I’ll be picking them up as I love reverbs and these might be good.

    I like what I’ve read so far…

    https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/trsunsetsound/

    https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=13026

It’s likely I’ll grab this before EOD.

That's for the T-Racks version I'm quite sure the MixBox versions are a bit more limited (ie. no microphone placement etc.).

  • The mixbox version includes the items from studio 1 that are in the full version of sunset. The full version of sunset reverb is great, and I prefer room 2 for the room verbs, but they all sound great. Room 2 is the biggest, and room 1 is in the middle but sound s really nice as well. I haven’t found room 3 to me as much to my liking for what I’ve moved since I’ve had it but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound really good.

The Plates are really nice as well. I don’t really use the chambers or booths from it much so I can’t make a very informed comment on those, but the times I’ve tried them they sound good. The booths are a very particular use case and on the tracks I’ve had they weren’t that use case. But I should spend more time with it.

  • I dislike the way IKM behaves as a company; they come across as negligent and incompetent, then usually don't even admit their mistakes.

OTOH, I just used untweaked mixbox presets on the desktop to comparison-test some other FX plugins a few days ago and it basically made me regret buying most anything else. It's that good. Oh well.

  • I see that as I have the desktop version, there is a 9.99 eur upgrade option for MixBox. I assume this is for the desktop version but there is a slightly confusing quote here:

“ All current owners of T-RackS Sunset Sound Reverb can log in to their IK user account to see the special pricing available to them for the MixBox Sunset Sound Reverb Collection, including for the iPad version.”

I tried logging in to the app to see if this unlocked a special price but it still comes up as £17.99. I wonder if there is an even cheaper way of getting it, given the quote above? Maybe buying the 9.99 eur version from the website somehow unlocks the iPad version.

Ok, I just did the 9.99 upgrade via the website and that unlocked the IAP in the iOS app! Something to consider if you have the full desktop version.

Edit: the modules unlocked without a restart but the new presets did not appear until the plugin was restarted

Still no IAP for the Sunset things...
...just a grey screen, well done IK :sunglasses:

I can see the IAP prices on the AppStore and it makes it even more 'confusing'?!

Exactly. What does "Upgrade to Full" even mean? Is "Full" the same as "Everything", including the Sunset Sound collection?

So let me try to understand this. If you buy the full version now you get the Sunset reverb. But if you were a early adopter like me and bought the full version before IAP switch, well you get the privilege of spending another 20$ to the the full version.

Sounds like a raw deal to me. Can you please clarify @ikmultimedia ?

That’s good to know. I only have the free mixbox on iPad, but with jam points it is $7 to unlock the sunset verbs in mix box, so I’ll think about that. I don’t really use it much in iOS now, but partly because I forget it exists. I was looking to see if there was a listing of what SE includes but I didn’t find anything.

Uhoh..... has mixbox stopped working again with a new update or something?? That would be like Portland being told by the army core of engineers for the second time in a decade their 250 million dollar bridge project is too low

  • @CapnWillie said:
Any chance you have a review of Sunset Reverbs coming up @ipadbeatmaking ?

Full disclosure, I haven’t updated mixbox since before the update that ‘broke it’ and I’ve been paranoid to update since then. I’m paranoid about it breaking old mixes and vocal tracks

This IAP is worth it if you like the studios of the 70's like Sunset Sound. The Doors, early Prince, EVH and so many more.

Make a batch of screen shots of the archived mixes so you can re-create if required.

I had one heck of a bad time with MixBox during the last big update, but this time I've had zero issues. Your choice if you want to update or not.

  • bought it, no problem here 👍 (  iPad Pro 12`9 M1/1TB)

Can’t afford these right now but have the desktop plugin from the group buy and like them a lot. I wonder if they’ll bring the Fame reverbs to MixBox as well?

    I think that’s a pretty safe bet.

  • Have to admit they do sound pretty nice...
...must trust iPad Air 2 struggles a bit with them but on the M1 iPadPro things really fly :sunglasses:
(I still get 'dizzy' when using the 11" iPad Pro considering it's a pretty BIG jump from the iPad Air 2).

  • @CapnWillie said:

So you leaped into the Sunset too?

    Bingo :sunglasses:
DDMF MagicVerb was also a candidate for that 'sound' but its UI irks me...

  • Just bought the Sunset IAP. The chamber and plates are awesome, they sound beautiful. The Main Room however seems to have some distortion in the right channel, it's very audible in the testing I've done.

  • Love the desktop version of Sunset so happy that it's available in MixBox iOS for a reasonable price (although I probably would have been happier to pay more for the full works rather than the greatly reduced selection we get). It's the Chamber and Plates that do it for me too, but the spring reverb is cool too (it sure doesn't sound real but that ain't the point of spring verbs).

  • How about the isolation booth for vocals? Is it of much value? I assume it’s character comes from some expensive mic.
