I am sorry to hear you are having difficulties with AU MIDI. This is what I did:
As soon as the AU is displayed, I can hear sound. I am not sure how much easier it can be or why you are not hearing anything. So, can you please confirm you are at least using version 5.3.4 and you are performing these steps?
Have you tried the detailed 250 page owner’s manual ?
Thanks , Davey! So not only for vocals but for samples too..
The pitch and time editor basically only works on vocals. Perhaps on monophonic instruments, but it isn't designed for that and the pitch detection is limited to the vocal range. The time editor works on everything though.
With a quick search couldn’t find anything related to using MIDI AUs but I’ll continue to look for it. Thanks!
I edited my post to say that I could get sound when using other MIDI AUs like StepPolyArp to make sound but I’m not getting any MIDI recorded to the track. There appear to be some AU instruments that work just fine in AUM being triggered by midi AUs but don’t make sound in AEM. Still no midi being recorded on the track with any of this. Thanks!
Ok, so with the steps I described, you are not getting any sound as soon as you select the Rozeta Particles?
To keep things simple to troubleshoot, I can get sound from default AEM instruments using Particles but nothing records. Using Particles with other AU instruments seems a bit hit or miss. I can get sound from some not others. I can try to make a list if you want but ALL of this works fine in AUM, that’s why I assumed it would be ok in AEM. No matter whether I can get sound or not, NOTHING is getting recorded to the track from any MIDI AUs.
Ok, well, one step at a time. Now for recording, press Rec at the top, then record. This records the particles hitting the edges to a MIDI clip.
I don’t know if it’s relevant but I’m one of those that got AEM when it was free and bought the update to get the full app.
No, that is not relevant. It should work in any case.
Record at the top? There is no record button at the top. I see a red arm button on the channel strip and record at the bottom.
Ok, once you enter the AU MIDI display, you should see several other icons at the top, one being Rec.
I must be an ID10T. I opened the AU window and opened every menu at the top including MIDI and there is no record button anywhere. Sorry to be a pain! I used to do tech support so I hate to be one of those people!
Hi Davy, sorry for the interference but may I ask you to consider adding the Rec button also to plain MIDI tracks in a future release? Thank you!
No problem, it just points out that something is difficult.
Yes. The lack of MIDI thru makes it less useful though. But I'll get to it some day, just like multiple AU MIDI's.
Just to be clear in case you misread the way I wrote that. There is NO midi record button at the top of the AU window so something is wrong here. I don’t have any saved projects so I’m going to delete AEM and reinstall etc and see if that fixes it. Stay tuned
I misread it, please never uninstall the app since that will erase all your projects! If you don't see the button, then I can only imagine that you are using an old version.
No there is something wrong here. I was already on the latest version. I had no saved projects yet so I deleted AEM, reinstalled, restored purchases etc and there is still NO Record button at the top of the AU window even in the full AU window. I’m not sure what else to do.
The Record button is at the top of the AU MIDI interface, not at the top of the AU instrument interface.
I found it right before you posted. Sorry I don’t think it should be this hard to figure out but thanks for your help!
@yowza @dwrae Just tried Particles in AEM works fine
. Latest iPad os latest version of AEM iPad M1.
Did you hit main record aswell as midi record?
The trial is limited by occasional silence during playback and by all export involving Vocal Tune Studio being blocked so it’s not time limited as in a certain number of days. Does allow for proper evaluation.
Thanks for doing this! Sorry but it shouldn’t be this hard to figure out. I don’t understand why just using the main record button doesn’t record MIDI. You have to hit record in 3 places? Really?
Perhaps someone else can explain. It was added on user requests and quite similar to Cubasis actually.
@yowza Even in Cubasis 3 you have to hit record twice so it’s no different from that. Once on the track and once on the header.
I don’t use Cubasis so that’s not a point of reference for me. I’m glad the feature is there but it seems to me arming the track should turn on the MIDI recording. What is recorded when you don’t turn on record in the AU window? I wasn’t getting anything recorded at all, audio or MIDI.
@yowza I amjust glad the DAW lets you record midi AU as not many iPad DAWS have the functionality.
Oh I agree but it shouldn’t be this hard to figure out. I haven’t followed this thread so I’m sure I missed when this was implemented. I couldn’t find anything in the manual about recording from MIDI AUs.
Thanks
