pretty weird to show the beta like this. not really how Ableton likes to do things.

Not really. You can sign up for the Ableton Live Beta and get the same sort of info on its evolution as well.

yeah, if your on the beta team. Usually when on the beta team you don't post beta updates to social media. Thats what i was always told when helping out, even NDA's in some cases.

It’s been a minute since I was involved with Ableton as a trainer/tester but I never saw any NDA.

not specifically Ableton but in general it can happen, personally fabfilter for me always dished out a NDA, but usually you don't post beta stuff on social, just my experience.

Think the post above about the new additions is from one of the devs but you’re not wrong regarding general beta testing. I see that happen occasionally as well and despite never having to sign an NDA I’m often told not to share anything until told otherwise.

Kinda bothers me when people do that.

Thanks, I remembered seeing it and thought that’s where it was from.

  • I’m just gonna say this here. It took me a few months to finally really sit down and use Ableton Note the way it wants to be used and i really do love it.

It forces a unique focus mode when composing that is beneficial to the whole process of building a groove or a beat or a feeling that i thought only Drambo could provide to me.

I just spent 30 minutes getting lost in a vibe with Note and am happy with the experience.

Anyhoo, i know it doesn’t support auv3s and doesn’t show up in AUM as one…but if you want to push yourself and stretch your own level of comfort and creativity, i urge you to test drive Ableton Note and see where it takes you.

Just use it the way it wants to be used, not the way you want to use it.

    Cheers.

  • I consistently like your work. The one referenced in this thread is no different. Love the video compositing too!

If a user isn't familiar with the Live/Ableton interface... how tough is the learning curve for Note? And if I have no intention of working with Ableton, is Note enough of it's own thing that it doesn't really matter?

    Many many thanks.

Hrmmm…that’s an interesting question. Ableton Lite is Free on the desktop, so there is a way to continue on the desktop…but as a complete solution, I’d say no if you’re not a Live user.

However, as a way to explore sound and samples and to learn I’d say it’s totally worth it as a self contained playground.

Here’s a quick noodle i made while exploring sounds and textures with nothing but play play play on my mind:

This is exactly it. I’ve been using it standalone and just exporting whatever it is when I’m done with it. Simple enough. I love all the plugins I have to use in Drambo and AUM but not every single app needs to be AUV3. This is a good example of an app that still excels either way

me too, especially when you spend a lot of time finding bugs and stuff, told to keep new features quiet...

Exactly. And at the end of the day it’s just disrespectful.

  • really like where this app is heading, not gonna be a full daw or anything but they’re doing some cool things for sure. Even if you don’t have Ableton Live, it’s still a damn good groovebox to have

Reminder that if you have Koala Sampler, you have Ableton Live Lite (8 tracks)

I don’t even have a desktop, much less Ableton but I agree Note is really great. I’m a fan and the factory content is great. And they seem to be fairly dedicated to improving it.

  • Last beta update allows for polyrythms (different lenght clips) and longer clips

Indeed. And it’s ridiculously simple to use

  • Is it possible to get on the beta for it similar to desktop?

  • No, it's a closed testing process for Note.

Got harder to duplicate and delete bars tho

I have Live! and a Push 2 and Note so I have an Ableton account and I’m subscribed to their newsletter. Occasionally they send out a poll offering a chance to win something for completing the survey. I always do the survey. After the last survey I received an email telling me I didn’t win anything but as a consolation prize I could join the Note beta. It was probably just luck, but maybe my consistent participation in the ecosystem earned me a token. 🤷‍♂️

  • We’ve been testing the release candidate. Should be soon.

  • It's out 👍

Price also seems to have increased (8.99 from 5.99) but guess it's expected as the app evolves

Yeah I said as much in the feedback I sent them, I guess they don’t care or there were too many dumb users mistakenly deleting and duplicating

  • The high contrast setting still seems odd to me. I reported and sent multiple screenshots. Maybe it’s what they want. 🤷‍♂️

Midi import……… would be nice… Reloaded and back to school.. Taking Notes now..
    Thanks..

  • I guess there's no step sequencing yet ?

I totally agree! But in this case those were posted on Twitter by the product manager, so it’s public knowledge.

  • As long as it’s public betas and you’re not under NDA, Ableton doesn’t care.

I welcome it.. Don’t see any harm with this posting.. Live 12 will have a deep impact on iOS music creation..
