you shouldn’t even be calling it an app it is software and at a fraction of the cost of its desktop counter

Because apps are not software, but merely primitive scribbles on a touchscreen.

I think he was referring to the fact that it’s a desktop software app that’s available for iOS. A 1:1 app at the fraction of the desktop price.

He probably was indeed, but the fact that Apps are not perceived as full "real" software is one of the reasons for the devaluation of software, and it's worrying that so many years after the $0.99 Angry Birds era this is still the perception.

    Same goes for FAC Transient

Transient is a little different though, isn’t it? I think the idea of it is more about shaping the overall sound via transients, so it can be both additive and subtractive, so to speak.

Sure, I only mention it because I think someone brought it up here as a possible replacement for Knock, unless I remember wrongly, which is possible - this thread has been pretty long lol. Transient certainly could be part of an fx chain that could do what Knock can, but definitely there is a bit of magic under that Knock hood, it is very very phat-sounding.

I'm the one who suggested FAC Transient in combination with other apps as a possible replacement for Knock in case someone doesn't want to shell out 30 quid for it. 😅

Then again, I've played with both Knock and Beef on the drums of an MC Hammer flip I made, and I liked Beef a little bit better (at least in today's little experiment). However Knock is top notch, and I imagine using it in the future for other projects. As @Stuntman_mike puts it, Knock as the "it factor".

    @DanteCooper
The shear ignorance behind this madness of speaking I’ve seen on this forum only proves most of you people are amateur app hoarders standing in the way of us real musicians that are truly making money doing music and are investing in iOS to further its progression.

🤣 Lol, excuse me sir. I so happen to be a professional and an app hoarder, thank you. (Afterall, I can't buy new apps without the income, right?)

You make a great point. I wasn’t thinking about it from that perspective. I’m used to working with the software team at work so I see no differences between desktop software app or mobile apps.

I always have a problem with the amateur/professional definition. As what is the definition of an amateur vs a professional? You make money with what you do, is that it? And ‘amateurs’ stand in the way of the ‘professionals’? Vincent van Gogh never sold a painting in his life. I have lived for years in Amsterdam and always been amazed at the long queues of people waiting to get inside the Van Gogh museum to see his ‘masterpieces’.
I think there are countless artists who are incredibly talented, but never make a dime while another ‘artist’ farts into a microphone and appears sometime later on MTV Cribs to show off his car collection. Beauty is in the eye (ear) of the beholder, and only God knows what kind of masterpieces some of these amateurs app hoarders (who stood in the way of professionals) are creating in their basements.

to me the definition of a pro, is having enough knowledge, experience and skills in whatever you know and do,
and the definition of amateur to me is someone who doesn't have much knowledge on a field, but by collecting experience can reach the potential with time and dedication !

But having knowledge enough to call oneself a ‘pro’ doesn’t mean someone has talent. To know everything about oil painting doesn’t make one Leonardo DaVinci. Knowledge doesn’t make artists.

of course having knowledge of oil doesn’t make the one with the knowledge of oil a painter because painting wasn’t his or her field, just like Leonardo wasn’t probably so knowledgeable about everything about oil paint or even the tools that he used for creating the art,
because that wasn’t his field, but anyway i wasn’t talking about the definition of an artist, i was actually talking about of my definition of a pro and of a amateur, which by the way being a pro or amateur doesn’t have anything to do with being an artist, but yes you can be a pro or amateur about having knowledge about the art, which again that doesn’t make anybody an artist,
just like a music app developer can be a pro in the field of developing synth apps, but that doesn’t necessarily means that the developer himself know how to professionally play a synth app, or someone that know how to professionally play a synth app, doesn’t mean the person know how to build a synth app, because that is not his field, plus being a pro in something, it’s all about the knowledge and experience that the person possess, and being a artist is about creating and being recognized for it, because art its all about expression, imagination and the skills that provides that !

  • So for years now. Majority of user here have been shouting for Logic, Kontact,Final cut Pro etc. The question is, if these ever get ported and the price is similar to desktop, are you gonna buy it or still think it’s highly priced?? Just out of curiosity

I don’t care about Logic or like the workflow so no, I won’t be buying a Logic port, but I’m probably in the minority there. I would buy Ableton, but that’s not happening. Kontakt? Yes, Ouput ports? Yes U-He ports? Yes Thenathan Ports? Yes ADSR ports? Yes

I would be more than happy to pay $199 again to get full Logic with all the stock plug-ins and AUv3 support running on my iPad.
But will it drop during 2023? I have my doubts but I do hope so...

A decent DAW that doesn’t crash would be nice for proper arrangements (not DAW’s, but yesterday Koala and Drambo both crashed out) - a slimmed down Ableton would be my first choice (Note doesn’t appeal), but ain’t gonna happen.

Kontakt would require insane amounts of storage so that’s not for me.

I wouldn’t mind Reaktor though, that’d be fun on the pad.

  • So I just learned that Knock has a built-in 808-styled sub generator (it was staring at me right in the face, but leave it to Ave Mcree to show me what a plugin has)! Cheers!

Yessir, and Decap entrusted L. dre with the module solo resample method explained in this video

  • (sorry I am new here)

Why this plugin is so expensive?

  • there are 15 extra Knock presets included in Drums That Knock X sample pack

    Yer welcome

Why this plugin is so expensive?

It’s a combination of ease of use, great quality results - not only does it create fantastic, bangin’ drums but many users are using it on everything else with surprisingly results, and the influencer behind it - DECAP, well known for making the best drum kits in Top 40 circle. Just imagine being able to create your own “Drums that Knock” kits, which retail at $60 each, anytime you choose - it’s like Coca Cola sharing their ingredients so you can make your own Coke, never gonna happen 😉

You would have learned that if you had watched my 8-min vid which also manages in that brief time to compare it with Beef. 😉 It's excellent. So is Beef but Beef lacks this sub generator.

Thanks for the info but doesn't FAC transient (or bandit) does similar stuff?

Why are designer jeans so expensive?

It's a app by an "influencer" being marketed as a "Pro" app. Hence the price.

@JanKun @richardyot Beatformer is dead? Haven’t used it in a bit, but it’s on a few tracks on my old iPad Pro running iOS 13

Yes Beatformer was bought out by Facebook and vanished from the App Store, I think it's even gone from the purchased list, so it won't survive a device upgrade.

It should still be available to you. Recently updated to latest iPad OS and Beatformer is still on my purchase list.

That’s good to know, thanks. I’ll be updating to a new iPad tomorrow.

Beatformer no longer available to download from my purchased history. I just get an error message saying the app is no longer in the App Store.

  • Totally fair for an influencer to charge what they think they can get - they may have spent many years building up their brand and working for peanuts in the early days. Their fans may see it as a chance to contribute to thanking them for the free content they got over the years etc. Whether enough people are willing to pay this amount of money for something to fatten drums on iOS remains to be seen.

Neither FAC Transient nor Bandit can remotely compete with this in terms of heaviness of sound. punch, slap etc. Caelum Beef is the only thing I have tried that even comes close (and it does some things better and others not as well, but is a mere ten bucks). People really need to quit whingeing about the price of this. If it doesn’t sell, the dev will likely be forced to bring the price down. If they abandon the app that will suck but also be bad for their reputation. If you think this is overpriced, don’t buy it - it’s that simple.

"Whingeing" is such an emotional word - it suggests that the comments are unreasonable.

People saying the app is too expensive is just as valid as people saying it is a bargain compared to the desktop version.

Gav, as a creator you know that as soon as you put something out there (a video, an app, a record) people are going to deliver their views on it, positive and negative. That's just how it works.

But you are 100% correct when you say "If you think this is overpriced, don’t buy it - it’s that simple".

  • True that whingeing is a loaded word and I could have expressed myself more 'delicately' 👍, cheers Simon!

  • FRFR: This plugin is a bargain for those who like it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Watch the videos about it. The price is definitely an anti-GAS option. Beef is less expensive and capable of adding weight to your sounds. For some, this app makes sense immediately after hearing it. I’m a boom bap type of guy, so for me this app sounds priceless 🤩
