Wow. I always thought whinging was just people making a stupid typo. Didn’t know it was a thing and a thing with much starker connotations!
🤣
Or people not in the USA using British spelling...
Or people in the USA who do use the British spelling. 😂🤣
But yeah, so much whinging about the cost of a plugin that in my opinion is worth its price. ❤️
Well, at least the whingeing is better than the fawning we've seen from some on this Forum. Fawning about how great the app is, fawning about how fair the price is, fawning about what a great deal compared to the desktop version. Bloody fawners!
Lol! I don't just blindly fawn however. I keep a level head. Knock is great but so is Beef, and I find myself preferring Beef lol. I don't regret my purchase. 😂
This cracked me up 😂
For certain genres of music Knock is most likely a pretty essential purchase to save time especially if one is not completely satisfied with the processing of the sounds from splice, arcade or other sources.
There's no doubt a lot of time has been spent on tweaking the processing algorithms in the app to appeal to the target audience...
I admit I don't belong to the target audience for Knock but I would pay equal or more to get the Polyverse plug-ins over to iOS.

Cheers!
That looks bloody amazing, can u ask them to port to ios please so we can all complain about their launch price while simultaneously drooling over it. I am definitely the target market for that baby!
I messaged them right after Wider was released for iOS and back then there was no interest in doing more plug-ins for iOS.
Don't know if @ninobeatz has been in touch with them as He's quite good at that kind of communication
Cheers!
I found Mr. Bill's Slap plug in much more interesting then Knock. Though it's only for desktop. I wish there is an ios version. Check it out, my recommendation
I wonder if the free "Wider" didn't get many downloads and so they surmise that paid apps won't get more downloads and are therefore not worth it for them..?
Maybe free apps like Wider and Filterjam are a way for developers to test the waters and see how big the iOS market is before fully committing.
That speaks to me and I honestly don't believe the price is justified by anything else.
Can anyone confirm if the frequency of the sub can be modulated?
Yep!
Sweet! Thank youu
Out of curiosity, would psa1000 be able to achieve a lot of the functions of this? I’ve seen a few other comparisons but that one seems more similar than some of the others I’ve seen
Don't have PSA1000, but to weigh in quickly, while this isn't for me, from what I can tell the two most unique things about Knock are the suboscillator (which you can do with other tools but less elegantly) and, hear me out... The UI.
I see this like a Pulltec... Most of the settings will sound good (but different) because of the choices made by the developer. It's designed for fast dialing-in. Also, you won't get pulled into needless tweaking. Otherwise, I could be wrong, but some eqing, saturation, clipping, and compression can probably get in the same realm but with more fiddliness due to more modules, routing, multiple UIs, parameters that you don't need, etc.. If I made different music, I could see myself investing in something for efficiency.
That said, I'm not in need of something like this since I'm happy to jury rig a reasonable facsimile when the situation arises (certainly not a perfect copy with my skills).
I have both and just did a comparison. While PSA1000 can be used for drums, I wouldn’t. Unless you’re going for a brighter, crunchier tone. It sounds much better for guitars/bass. Drums through PSA1000 without any of the parameters up would automatically make it sound boxier, as if being played out of a cab. It’s based off of a famous pre amp from the 90s that several indie and alternative guitarists started using for portability and use of use. IMHO, the closest you’ll get to Knock is Beef, or making your own version in Nurack, Drambo or otherwise.
My poor man’s Knock, prior to Knock was FAC Transient, Nurack’s Harmonic Exciter/Tube Overdrive, Bass-Mint, ChowTapeModel, and Rx950 on iPhone
On iPad is was FAC Transient, Saturn 2, FF MBC, Bass-Mint, Rx950
I still use FAC Transient in conjunction with Knock for extra texture. I’d say, all of our drum tools on iOS still very much have a place, especially in combination with Knock. The advantages I see for using knock are ease of use, speed, cpu overhead, and less “stuff” to go through, which can lead to over processing.
Roast Beef, Bassmint, FAC transient, ChowTapeModel, and Nurack will get ya close
I left some suggestions on Decap’s Twitter and he is listening
Nice one! Good ideas there. Yeah Beef is the only 1-app contender that comes anywhere close. As I mentioned Beef does some things better and has overall more functionality and control, but doesn't have the tuneable sub, and the speed of dialing things in in Knock is hard to beat. Excellent sounding results, super quickly. For people making beat loop packs etc I can especially see the appeal of that speed factor
Ah yeah I see that now with psa, I tried it out and heard that boxiness. Thanks for the explanations, I can see the appeal of Knock. I’ll need to give Beef another visit as well, I haven’t spent much time with it
how are people using this, are you using one Knock unit and routing all your drums through it? or rather putting it on individual drums?
i’m using it for the first time but not hearing any magic, if anything it seems to make my drums sound worse
further exploration surely necessary
Its probably for kick drum.
How does it compare to beef. Fac bandit. Saturn type apps, For just a kick drum ( synth via fac drumkit )
KNOCK is not for everyone.
It’s great for people who like their drums to have healthy distortion that makes drums hit with a certain style (boom bap).
I often send my drum bus through KNOCK and sometimes bass lines to make notes stand out more.
Knock can be used on almost anything though - I love it (sometimes anyway) on synths and all other kinds of stuff too. It’s just one of those things like Beef or Woot - both of which have their own distinct character though - that has that secret sauce thing going on.
I use it on all channels and on master instead of limiter awesome plugin. Also channel strip pro
