  • Remember that bad reviews really do hurt a small business, so I can see the frustration of the developers when they are looking at someone saying their product is terrible when the reality is possibly that they had expectations that it would do something different or would be easier to learn.

A friend of mine runs a small business, which has mostly 5 star reviews, and he works very hard to maintain that with impeccable customer service. When a one star review turns up or someone writes a review that simply doesn’t ring true, it’s a pretty major deal for him as it’s potentially going to impact his livelihood.

Despite the agreement that this could have been communicated much better, we should try looking at it from the other side too.

  • @Fear2Stop : they have a number of apps that aren't on the phone. It might be literally correct that more than 50% are reverbs and delays, but the ones that aren't are significant offerings and are going to be the focus of the price increases. They named them in their posts. Other Desert Cities is a delay but a complex, sophisticated one.

You never know how many satisfied customers will recommend your product or service to others. Word of mouth is still the top way people are convinced to buy something. And that goes in the other direction also. A dissatisfied or angry customer will tell absolutely everyone. If you're the vendor, don't dump on your customers.

I own nearly all of them. My recommendation: Replicant 2 and Grind are the two essential AD apps to lock down at current price (or get Replicant 3 at the intro price when it comes out). The delays and reverb are very good, but non-essential for me. That said, Eos and Dub Delay are two of my faves for reverb and delay. ODC is good for the more intense, weird delay effects.

The filter, panner, chorus are good but not essential. Discord is impressive but I never bonded with it.

  • Idk, seems fair they announced it...
wasn’t this what people were asking for? desktop ports for fair prices...
If you don’t have the apps, now is the time to wait a little longer to get everything you wanted.

Trial period may help with the drive-byes and really justify the price hike..

Most of their apps are reverbs, delays and compression units… anybody who would be picking them up would already know what they are, especially with how difficult it is these days to find things in the App Store ! At least I would hope so 😂 I seriously doubt somebody who needs compression socks for their diabetic feet would think Rough Rider would be helpful lol

I don't think "Most of their apps are reverbs, delays and compression units,,," accurately captures the range of products they have released

That’s mostly I saw in the App Store, but then again I’m an iPhone user vs iPad.
    .

It reminds me how weirdly cheap their apps are..

  • I couldn’t resist spending five minutes flipping through the reviews for their apps on the App Store…. What I see is either glowing, or pointing out bugs. That’s par for the course for App Store reviews in my experience.

I didn’t “See All” reviews, so maybe there’s some spam lurking down there. But the overall ratings were all well above 4.

I own all of the Audio Damage apps, save Axon and Filterstation. They’re a tremendous value at their current price.

  • Does anyone remember the mixed reaction to “Enso” when it came out?

Yeah, same thing I see when looking at reviews 🤷🏽

Anyone looked at the review "scores" their apps have on the US app store?

    OtherDesertCities 4.5 out of 5
Enso Looper 5 out of 5
Quanta Granular Synth 4 out of 5
    Axon 3.2 out of 5
    Panstation 4.4 out of 5
    RoughRider 4.6 out of 5
    ChannelStrip 4 out of 5
    PhaseThree 4.5 out of 5
    RatshackReverb 4.7 out of 5
    ADverb 4.5 out of 5
    Discord 4.7 out of 5
    Filterstation 4.4 out of 5
    Pumphouse 3.5 out of 5
    Dubstation 4.1 out of 5
    Replicant 4.4 out of 5
Grind Distortion 4 to of 5

Doesn't look too bad to me.

  • @_Ki turned me on to Axon and I used it for a nice run.
@flo26 demo’ed Adverb so many times I just grabbed it for months.

The reviewers got it right: Enso is the largest diamond in a bag of jewels.

Where is Eos2 (4.2 on the store… too low to be mentioned?). How many apps have the infinite freeze button? Algorhythmic reverb that’s over 10 years old and still unique. As close as you will
Get to Valhalla Reverbs on IOS for $7.

That AD complains about the evil iOS/iPadOS world is nothing new.

At least in the German Appstore, I can hardly find any unjustified reviews. The overall rating is quite positive. To me, this sounds like an cheap excuse to raise prices.

On a side note, I own many AD apps, but regularly use only Eos 2 and sometimes Quanta. At least in Eos it is not possible to save your own user presets. AD knows this (from my point of view fundamental) bug since years. If I couldn't workaround this issue by using AUM's own preset system, I would have written a negative review long ago.

  • You only see reviews specific to your country.
Besides, they have the right to set prices as they see fit; they’re letting you know so can get them cheaper now... win-win...
apparently, we’re only ready to support devs who are yet to come, not the ones already delivering?
How many times have you read the comment “I would pay X if it was available”?
Thing is, tripling their prices still make them an average at best priced, which kinda says it all...

I’m not even a fanboy, haven’t used their apps for ages, but they were available at a time when there were barely any alternatives and they worked pretty well for the most part... oh, did I mentioned how cheap they are/were?

Not even close in my end…I’ve never bought anything when it first comes out ; I try to wait until all the bugs have been sorted out. I usually end up paying more but it gives me time also to make an informed decision.

And for the record, my personal go to developers are ApeSoft , Bram Bos* , and 4 pockets …and they’ve been around a long time

*even though I was massively disappointed by Ruismaker FM

  • Audio Damage did a very similar thing before they released anything on iOS, it all went badly for them over at the KVR forum sometime ago, arrogant and contempt for the customer base, not a good PR angle. Seems like history repeats and nothing learned.

Yikes…was not aware of that . Now it makes sense. Perhaps the reason for their downturn in sales isn’t the poor reviews (that some of us can’t see) …maybe it’s more due to bad karma. Or bad word of mouth due to that prior incident.

I have a feeling that Chris Randall might be fun to hang out with in real life, but someone whose sense of humour doesn't come across well online. This is a generous interpretation, and of course I have no idea really how true it is. The following is a factual statement though - he has clearly said many things that have rubbed people the wrong way.

I don’t know if it was widely known on the forum but I hoped he learned from the bad PR over at KVR, who knows I may be just misjudging his actions now, but it does seem reminiscent.

  • I’m curious to understand what a Drive By Review is like.

    Other Desert Cities

    Continua

    Quanta Synth

Can anyone help fact check these issues? Hopefully, Chris doesn’t pop in and see these again. Personally, I have the most experience with Continua and the amazing free @Spidericemidas presets. His PAD’s are amazing. It’s NOT how many voices
A synth has… it’s what you can do with them. @Spidericemidas knows what to do with them.

  • These apps are definitely worth more. I’ve found very few issues with them.

It’s also reminded me that I bought all Chris’ apps before I got better at leaving reviews, so I’ve just been through the ones I use (which is most) and rated/reviewed them.

Does anyone else forget to leave positive reviews? Lots of us are very good at hounding developers 😂

  • edited March 2023

There’s not a thing wrong with that last one if it’s true (talking about the review from Stenaulis)! Now THESE would be great examples… one of these is for LAYR…which does more than “make a sine wave”… and anybody who bought Synclavier Go specifically for midi mapping, well…

I can't remember ever having left a negative review for an app. I normally give 4 or 5 stars. If I have ever given a negative review it must have been a long time ago. I generally prefer to reach out to developers directly and inform them of problems - which I did to James Navarro the other day about the lack of Auv3 parameters in Square Acid, and to which he very graciously replied. Not a hard thing to do on either side, but makes life so much more pleasant all round.

  • I opened Quanta and was able to figure out how to load a sample. Audio Dante should write a comment to explain the reviewer is in err. Could be OS version dependent or the user hasn’t stayed current.

Other Desert Cities loads fine on my iPad Pro.

Continua is clearly labeled as a 6 voice synth. Caveat emptor on that one.

  • I have decided not to be a member of the user community going forward because 10 of you are assholes and not only leave reviews but they are totally focused on your own expectations. I’d rather not be grouped with you unless we can identify and
    Expel the assholes.

  • Devs should never raise prices... they should quietly go out of business... or even better, they should beg us for a ‘coffee’ in a heartwarming video so we can feel better about ourselves

  • @McD said:
    Expel the assholes.

Now expel from asshole would have explained things a little better - GAS, this may be the problem with lack of reviews.

  • “Doesn’t do anything but make a sine wave”

    Utter moron.

Only negative review I’ve ever left was for AudioTune, since it legit didn’t work and I got ignored after contacting twice . Had nothing to do with my “expectations” , unless expecting something to work and not get ignored is a crime.

Conversely, I’ve left many positive reviews that for some reason never appeared on the App Store.

Chris Randall seems like a fun guy to go out and have 2 beers with, but very much the wrong guy to go out and have 10 beers with ;) 🍻
