  • @jwmmakerofmusic I think it’s brilliant, most people know I’m not a fan of subscription models for apps, especially things like EQs etc.
But Logic Pro for the price they are asking is extremely fair in my opinion, honestly, I can’t wait, I’m super stoked and very excited about this.
It’s shaping up to be a mega month for iOS music me thinks😊
I will still be using all the other DAWs I use and of course AUM, because I like to mix it up, mainly because I demo new synths, effects etc, it’s nice to use them in different situations, scenarios and stuff, it’s all very cool beans😎

Awful news. Just plain terrible. I’ve always been able to hide my inability to compete projects by blaming the iOS ecosystem, but not anymore. Now this forces me to take accountability. Bastards.

As a long-time desktop Logic user, let me reassure you that it is absolutely possible to not ever complete projects in it. Takes a bit of practice at first, true, but then it becomes second nature. Don't lose hope just yet. 👊

Best quote on this thread for couple of reasons

  • FFS we get it. Some of you don’t like subscriptions. That doesn’t mean you have to hijack every thread for a subscription app with your whining.

Some of us want to discuss Logic for the iPad, which we’ve been anticipating for years. This is one of the most important releases in iPad music making ever, and you’re just derailing it, yet again.

It’s fine to have an opinion. It’s not fine to force it upon everybody else, over and over.

Subscription model... no thanks.... plus, it doesn't even run on my iPad.

Eh. Like I said up-thread, head over to the iPad music subreddits on reddit.com if you really want to see folks losing it over subscriptions. The dialogue here has been remarkably restrained for the subject matter. I think it's okay to be disappointed by the subscription model and still be excited for everything Logic on iPad is going to enable.

Exactly! This is exactly how I feel. :)

I'm excited to see your upcoming demo vids mate. :)

And the rest of us get it. You don't like whining. That doesn't mean you have to come into every thread for a subscription app with your whining about whining. 🤣

Not really. It's relevant to the thread since Logic for iPad Pro is a subscription app (albeit fairly priced and easy to pop into a monthly/annual budget).

It’s fine to have an opinion. It’s not fine to force it upon everybody else, over and over.

Much like you're trying to do right now?

  • It’s not a bad deal, £200 over four years is about the same as an upgrade cycle on a major product…

  • 400th comment. 😎

  • I was quite excited to hear about Logic coming to iPad, but then I realised I had no idea why. Serious question - what big ticket items will Logic Pro going to bring that Cubasis doesn't? - I mean they both use AUV3 presumanly so are any new instruments going to be available? If Kontakt came to iOS that would really be a thing for me. I use Cubase on my MacBook Pro so at least I can import Cubasis projects... what will make Cubasis users ditch it for Logic?

    Exactly! 😂

  • I’ve run Logic since the eMagic days but I so vastly prefer working on the iPad Pro that I rarely open the MacBook anymore. I’m really looking forward to this release.

  • 13 cents a day for a plethora of world class synths, effects, automated mixer yada yada…. that’s a deal i shall not pass up.

Subscription, i’ll pass on this .. imagine after 10 years of using you payed to apple $500

Ha! $500 is NOTHING to moan at…
I have spending $22000 buying Apple products the last ten years, so, 500 less or more doesn’t care me much…

Sure, I’m not that pleased concering subscription, but, a full fledged Logic Pro is something else though it has so so much to get you & I for 50 bucks a year…

Yep - for something like Logic Pro, 50 bucks a year…come on people - it’s fucking nothing lol

  • Yep, I hate subs but this is a good think for iOS music IMO

Google the features of Logic Pro. Cubasis does not remotely compare.

2023 is the year iPad went Pro for real.

Let’s make the platform proud now 😉

For me it’s 2022 when Serif Labs released Affinity Suite in version 2.0 on iPad - Photo/Designer/Publisher - three supergreat apps, and, with no subscription…

  • I didn 't think this would ever happen. I'm so happy to be wrong.

I'm actually more excited about FCP, I use it on desktop, but I like an iPad for working with images and videos. Luma Fusion is great but I like the results I get with FCP.

I'm curious to find out which Logic instruments and effects will be included in the iPad version. I'm excited to see what it will be like and find out the specs.

I have always been a Cubasis and Ableton Live guy. Never really work with LP. Why LP it's so fantastic? If you had to give me the 3 best reasons I must subscribe to LP, what would they be?

    1. It runs on an iPad
    2. It runs on an iPad
    3. It runs on an iPad
  • @Gavinski I don’t know about you Gav, but I’m a bit overwhelmed this month🤪😂

  • This is going to break my anti-subscription stance but it’s very good value for money so I won’t weep about it.
I think this will be the the DAW for the iPad that (hopefully) will have everything feature wise that people want.
Just need to buy a new iPad now. :-)

  • Will Garageband instruments be shared with Logic Pro?… man I hope so. Is there any info on this?

    Definitely:

  • not about money, more about owning a product forever rather than having it on loan.

GB instruments are all stripped-down versions of Logic instruments. And it looks like the interesting UIs for stringed instruments etc. are making it to Logic. So, yes, I believe so!

  • In fact you can start a project in GarageBand now, and finish it in Logic in a couple of weeks...

Most of the time it's a distinction without a difference, but when you buy e.g. Ableton Live Suite, you don't "own" the software, you own a license to use the software (which can be revoked for whatever reasons they cite in the EULA).

And the reality has always been that you have a license to a particular version of a particular software, and after a certain amount of time goes by you will find that it's no longer compatible with current hardware, or a current OS release, or current plug-ins. I still "own" a license to Adobe Photoshop 2.5, and a fat lot of good it does me.

Again, I'm not happy that LP for iPad will be subscription only. But the cost is reasonable and TCO is certainly in line with what I'd expect to pay over time for software I "own".

  • Anyone worried about not owning apps probably best read the terms and conditions in the App Store, there’s a reason they’re cheaper…

Hell freezes over and then goes straight to hell! Subscription only?
Hell no! Go to hell, Apple!
