I would like to make some VR projects myself if I ever get funding. But it's still not as appealing as other types of filmmaking, or real immersive installations where you are physically there. I prefer that personally.

What Apple does with this spatial audio in these headsets, married with the VR visuals does sound very interesting. Especially from the perspective of a content creator. My guess is that there's a lot more to be gained with regard to the illusion of immersion via this spatial audio tech.

In the demos I didn't see anything over the ears... and they suggested that the headset was generating the audio... but in the new commercial they ran at the end, the woman on the plane wearing the headset looked like she was ALSO wearing Apple ear pods.

If they could somehow make the CPUs as modules so that your $3500 Vision Pro investment wasn't obsolete in a year... and you could just plug in upgraded CPUs... then maybe I could be persuaded.

Curious if anyone has done anything with 360 cinema yet? Being immersed in a film where you could look around instead of passively watching a 2D screen might be interesting.

porn, for sure 😂 they are always early adopters of every new tech 🤣

That’s not going to happen on Apple’s platform through their App Store.

Correct. Headset has speakers, but those turn off if you’re wearing AirPods Pro.

A lot of interesting new breakthroughs in this product, starting with that display.

Yeah the audio will be good I'm sure and the potential is massive for interesting audio apps. There is a great modular music app on Quest 2 where you can build sequencers and synths etc, it's fun but I still prefer using hardware in real life so I haven't been using it much. It also has an AR mode.

there are little speakers on sides but i feel like from practicall reasons in most case people will use airpods anyway otherwise audio will bother people around.. can you imagine on the plane 6-7 people with that thing, every one watching different movie or playing FPS game ?

until you aren't alone in room, using anything other than headphones makes no sense

Finally got a chance to watch the keynote. I think my favorite thing is just Maps getting a topo option on the iPhone and watch. I use that almost daily in other apps with all the mountain biking and hiking I do, looks sweet.

Vision Pro is pretty mind blowing too, going to take some time to fully appreciate all this can do going forward. I thought for sure prior to the keynote I wouldn't be interested enough to jump on the first version, now...... not so sure.

I also thought it was interesting how they said the new game mode on Mac enables lower latency bluetooth, so perhaps there's hope for music apps in the future too.

I thought I heard that too. Doubling the sampling rate or something. Would make a big difference if they could.

The ESPN Sports demo from Disney fulfills a dream I’ve had about sporting events for some time. Viewers will be able to see real-time simulated views of sporting events from any seat in the house.

  • Those eyes that stare back from a frosted peep hole like Bane in Arkham Asylum. Yeah, that's a way to connect with your kids!

  • This whole presentation reminds me of Black Mirror episode. Anyways if apple decides to push this tech, and i think they will, i see huge potential, especially in their ecosystem with all amazing apps they have. Especially now since they are introducing games, there will be jobs for developers. Looking forward to consumer version thought, 3.5k is still to expensive, kinda in a range of Vario, another great vr headset. Let's see, exciting times

I assume a household that can afford one will be able to afford one for every family member.

Clearly, Apple is going the opposite of that kind of approach and favoring more a more human-centric approach.

honestly more i think about it more impractical i found it for anything other than watching movies and playing games.. and for that purpose it needs to cost 10x less for mass adoption

    • for video calls / online meatings - it makes no sense until ALL callers will be not equiped by same tech and then - what they will watch - other people's eyes, or virtual avatars ? During video calls , there is reason to see whole face - it has deeper psychological / neurological reason ( google "mirroring neurons" - our brain needs actually see whole face to build emphatic relationship with other participants)

    • for daily work as replacement for monitors it makes no sense either (can't imagine having that thing on my head for +8 hours)

Overpriced gaming interface and home cinema.. that's all it is.

I bet this ends like huge fail, at the end they will sell it bellow production costs and then they will quietly remove it from portfolio. I smell biggest marketing fail in Apple history.

Chill, chill, there’s time for the kids - the battery holds just two hours, so plenty of time play with the kids meanwhile battery is charging…

I thought you were the big VR defender here? You should be delighted with what was announced today. No one else has taken this same path Apple demonstrated today. This is a big step torward mass adoption for the entire AR/VR industry. They should be kissing Apple's feet for showing them the right way.

It’s definitely a developing art form, we’re just a few steps beyond the lumiere brothers train approaching screen. There’s some really nice examples out there, but they’re still quite short and focused on using the technology in a specialised way - ‘Travelling while black’ has some lovely moments in it, the Anne Frank house one is nearly there on something quite special. I worked on one last year that was really nice looking and told a story in a way that wouldn’t otherwise make sense or be possible… next few years will be make or break for it as a mainstream art/entertainment form, otherwise it might just devolve into video games and roller coaster rides…

I've had the impression or some time... that for most people... the attraction to getting lost in a great film is due to it being a completely passive experience... to the point the viewer forgets their own life for a little while. It could be that there isn't really a desire to actively engage with entertainment in general... except for porn of course. lol ;)

Yeah, I’ve quickly returned to my normal film making activities, and art installations. I’ve learned a lot, and I’ll do more if I get commissioned, but film is such a great medium there’s almost no need to water it down in this way… and physical things yeah, I’m planning one in almost darkness at the moment that uses light blocking to change a soundscape…

  • It's really odd in that the whole ecosystem is very similar to what Meta tried and failed to pitch some time ago with Metaverse and have recently been ditching it, and there's nothing much here to indicate if it can succeed either. Since we only have a certain amount of hours in the day to do things, most people don't want to spend much time in these things rather than with more physical interaction.

I'll go out on a limb (I'm not really going out on a limb) and predict Apple will sell every single one of these in no time flat. Early adopters will help them fund and develop the next gen... and the next... and then it'll be something people will want to replace their computers, TV's, and so on.

    Wow 3500.00 for vr?!

    Ima stick with oculus!

    More of everything.

The entry level price on this doesnt include all the extras they talked about. I believe the human base will be low on this as the gate fee is extensive.

problem is, when i start imagine (and i have really big imagination) how i would use it in real world., during daily routine - . i always end just with gaming or watching movies.. for rest of use cases i just see really major impractical drawbacks and reasons to not use it .. and 2h battery lifetime is likeabsolute showstopper for most use cases

No no no mr Dendy, Apple Vision Pro will not be a big fail and disappear from Apples portfolio…

People said the same about iPad, just a bigger iPhone…
People said the same about Apple Watch, who wants an small iPhone on their wrist…

  • On the plus side, Craig "Hair Force One" Federighi playing Black Sabbath riffs on a three-necked guitar was pure genius!

Meta Quest 2 has 2-3 hour battery life. Is this better or worse than that? And what are the odds you'd be plugged into power if you're at a desk or on a couch? Odds are very, very high.

No one is going skiing in these things. They're made for limited mobility interactions.
