I’m totally in even more than before. Never realized how good sculpture was…never tried it on desktop…but it is a a BEAST

It's really fantastic, isn't it? I wonder why no developer has tried to crib this part of Logic Pro as a standalone AUv3 app?

sculpture alone is worth twice the yearly sub of Logic

Unfortunately the GUI of Sculture is a disaster, but, it sounds tremendous!

It’s so bad. Scrolling through 5-6 pages with knobs everywhere. But man it sounds amazing. I’d kill to have a physical modeling AUV3 that good.

My (optimistic? naive?) take is that they probably did these clumsy, barebones UIs for the built-in plugins using SwiftUI in order to get the product out the door, and we’ll likely see improvements in future updates. I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff that the Logic product engineering team wanted in the 1.0 product that they had to punt on, so I suspect and hope that the first couple years of updates will be significant. Things like better handling of multi-out plugins and project templates, but also stuff like a real multisampler and real Alchemy. My fingers are crossed.

I agree with you. Hopefully it won’t take too long. If they take too long to add features people want, people will start jumping ship or just going back to C3 i feel like.

If Logic desktop works as an indicator, rolling out updates will be slow but include a TON of fixes and not so many new features. They don‘t like smaller (but faster) bugfix updates but maybe (hopefully) they‘ll be faster with lpx ipad cause subscription…

Let’s hope so. I haven’t renewed my sub yet as I’m still undecided but I know there have been some huge Logic for desktop updates over the years.

  • To those here who had talked about sticking with Logic (on iPad) for a little bit in order to "get" the workflow etc - thankyou! You were right. Had a pivotal session today stuck in a shopping center food hall for 2 hrs (don't ask). Doing some editing and fleshing out some basic pieces I'd started at home. Suddenly the editing flow made sense and I was able to be reasonably quick and fluid. It's a no brainer now to take a year's subscription and keep going. Noice!

  • Even though Logic Pro for iPad misses a few things (Files.app integration in the Browser with Drag'n'Drop export, Legato Mode in the QuickSampler, Note Velocity editing using the Automation editor (velocity ramps etc.)) being a few of them it has become my go-to 'DAW' which I enjoy using without feeling too 'stressed'.

I also miss being able to select multiple steps in the Pattern Sequencer to do group-edits for velocity (This is not yet present in the Mac version either).

I also miss a few visual cues present in the Mac version (the display showing which Chord is played, and well the piano roll could also show the 'chord' for the selected notes).

I miss having the tuner in a floating window which I use all the time on the Mac to 'tune' samples in QuickSampler when the auto pitch-detection fails. (The Tuner on the Mac shows both the tune and numerical deviation in cents making it easy to tune it in QuickSampler by swiping the tuning of the root-note).

I also miss having the 'input gain' present in the mixer for audio-tracks when using an interface that supports software control over the input gain. (EVO4 being one).

There's also a pretty neat bug in Logic Pro for iPad when recording with an interface that supports software control over gain.
If the gain on the interface is changed Logic defaults to using the gain set under settings...

For now I'll just wait for the next update to drop to check if any of the things I've sent feedback on get fixed before I waste more time on creating feedback requests to Apple...

    Cheers!

  • @Samu your mention of selecting multiple steps reminded me of a question I had today. Is there anyway in the Piano Roll editor to select multiple notes by drawing a selection? Didn;t see it in the manual. Seems nuts to have to select every individual note for basic things like quantizing a region etc.

Yes, you can 'lasso' things in the piano-roll (long tap until you see a square pop and lasso-in the notes).

Hmmm. I don't see that option. I'm long pressing in an empty section of the piano roll and all I get is a 3 option menu starting with Select All. Tried it in Trim mode and Select mode. I realise it's a "me" issue :)

EDIT: It's late and I am slow. I see what you mean now. You're a legend Samu! Thanks so much my friend.

Yes indeed! First few sessions are rough and stressful then suddenly it moves squarely into confirmed game changer status

  • My thoughts on Logic over a month later...I may use it again someday for creative endeavors, but its timestretching algos are second to none. I just used LP4i to timestretch some stems to create a remix I'll post here soon. :)

  • So, how do you save imported samples (loops) to recall in other projects?
    Thanks..

  • One thing I really love using Logic for is its clip launcher. Adding a bunch of drones and loops that I’ve recorded and putting the step or remix effect on the master bus pushes it into Launchpad territory and it’s super fun! The mastering tools are also very great. Not to mention the studio strings and horns and Sculpture. Overall I think it’s a really good DAW. Zenbeats is still my go-to for now but I’m happy to have both. It’s definitely surpasses Cubasis 3 as my “other” DAW and will likely be how I master all my AUM jams going forward.

I was initially not super impressed or pleased but with something as complex as a DAW you really do just need to stick with it and learn the ropes before it clicks.

  • After now 1 month , I choose to go for a monthly sub. It will not be at this stage my main iPadOS Daw , why ? Because I never rely on a V1.0 for any software or daws as a main choice nothing against LP4i.

If I want to create serious track I still stick to LogicPro X on Mac. On iPadOS my main daw to Create is still Cubasis3. It is just a personal choice I never tell to anyone what to use. It depends of my music style too : electro EDM.

I use some specific synth like sculptures on LP4i and I will be even more happy if Apple bring full Alchemy on LP4i. I need it to create some tracks and I miss it, for other that have different style of music like pop , rock it can be ok with actual Alchemy on LP4i.

For the price of monthly sub LP4i bring me many stock plugins that I don’t need to buy anymore as apps so I don’t buy now any new apps as I got all I need on my iPad. That the great thing too.

I don’t tell that I will not buy anymore iOS apps but it must be really top apps like we got on Mac OS not just an other compressor, an other EQ or sampled instrument. For instruments only modeling apps and top one that I need really.

Yeah the quality/value of the included plugins is wild…the sound library on the Mac version -( which I never really perused due to a Spectrasonics addiction) is STELLAR. I’ve been grabbing more and more of these and saving to iPad. A true ❤️ story in ze making

  • After years of Windows + Cubase and a fierce anti-Apple attitude 🤣 for some reason I bought an IPad.
    And then Cubasis 3.
And then LP for IPad and I fell in love!
And so I bought a Mac Mini M2 and couldn’t believe how cool it is.
And so I bought Logic Pro X 🤪
I am the perfect example of an Apple strategy success but I don’t care as I’m happy with my new toys.
Logic for IPad has taken a back seat now that I have the desktop version of it but I still think it’s nearly perfect for my needs that are mostly geared towards rock-pop-country music.
It was kind of “learning intensive” but I made it through in a couple of days (admittedly full time days).
So LP4i is here to stay AFAIC

There was a poll a little while back and the majority votes were actually for “all iPad”. That’s how I work personally. No interest in desktop. But I’m glad it’s working for you! Logic iOS is felt great.

LP4i is a great addition to iOS music world. To my opinion the first update will take some time like few months with a lot of minor bugs fixes and minor new features (usually it is what do Apple with LP on Mac), follow perhaps few weeks later by a new sound pack for LP and GB and so on the first year but I can be wrong.

I have moved EXS24 Instruments between Mac and my iPad - easy…

is it necessary to have Logic on a Mac to import EXS24 instruments into the ipad Logic?

Seems the idea is to get the tempo of your imported sample.. set the project to the tempo of the sample, tap on follow tempo/flex and save preset .. So many things one can do to this synced imported sample…now.

Edit.. all of my fav Blocs Waves samples are at my fingertips..

Yep, I had high hopes there.
The one instrument I wanted in it never worked consistently. While it did load and run nicely in AP. True it was 11gb, but AP was a champion in this area

Looks like you would be the perfect candidate for a monthly sub, to give yourself time and the chance to pop in and out.
