I signed up for the year sub on release day, played with it all month, missed the cancellation day, refunded my subscription because I like CB3 better, then changed my whole thought process and subscribed again for the year.
Wow an entire paragraph in one sentence

Looks like you would be the perfect candidate for a monthly sub, to give yourself time and the chance to pop in and out.

Yeah, I actually meant to cancel my last month in advance but forgot. I'm gonna do it now. I'm just not using this, it's a waste of money for me, even though it's a small amount. I'm definitely an AUM guy at this point. Let them work on the UI of things like Sculpture, the horrendously slow accordion style opening of auv3s from small to full screen, give us the full version of Alchemy etc and I'll reconsider again.

Kinda leaning towards that as well though I do love the studio horns and strings. And Sculpture and the drum synth of course. I haven’t tried uploading some stems from AUM and mastering them yet, but I’m gonna do that before I completely decide. The built in mastering effects and mix busses seem like they would be great for that.

But so far, it’s not pulling me away from Zenbeats. I’m in AUM 90% of the time anyway, but for when I do want to reach for a DAW, Logic hasn’t been the first choice yet. I think ZB has a better clip launcher as well, but neither of them can touch Launchpad for that as it is.

I’m sticking with it .. The fact that there hasn’t been an update in two months can only mean either one of two things

1 : Either there will be a mind blowing update coming:

    Or

2 - Apple SOAKS (“Soax” is an extreme version of “sucks”!!!!

  • @HotStrange : I find the quality of drums and other sounds in Logic to be far superior to Zenbeats. I dunno what it is but Zenbeats don’t sound right .

Fair enough! I love the sound of the ZB synths and drums but to each his own! I think Logic sounds fantastic as well. The drum synth is super cool.

  • @HotStrange : I could see going the ZB route with a Versalab. They’re probably gonna improve the integration on it . And their customer support KILLZ Apple ‘s.

  • Remember when I said Logic Pro took my lunch money? Well, the new Vision Pro took my rent money and now I pay taxes just to see through that thing.

Jokes aside, great job creating this thread @jwmmakerofmusic . It, and a few other threads have provided a lot of valuable information I never expected to get this year.

Yep, totally agree. Cancelled until the next set of updates… I keep going back to AUM and Drambo to be honest. So much quicker and easier and being using the same workflow for years. (Plus I’ve just updated Bitwig on desktop to version 5 and that’s taking up lots of time to get a handle on the excellent new features)

I’m considering cancelling as well. I keep paying every month thinking I’ll use it more but then I just stay in AUM and go to ZB every time I want a “DAW”. Then with apps like Loopy Pro and Drambo. Idk doesn’t seem integral to me.

I actually did cancel my sub and moved back to NS2 myself. If NS2 ever went away, I'd probably switch to Cubasis 3 or try to learn Zenbeats, but it seems Matt will keep NS2 maintained for a good long time as-is. :)

No audio tracks is kind of a dealbreaker for me, but it seems great besides. I may still try it one day if there’s ever another big sale. Zenbeats is definitely still my go-to though. And it’s surprisingly fully featured and right up there with Logic. (And NS2. Imo they’re the top 3 on iOS).

Only did the demo month, but every time I see a screenshot or watch someone play back a project I do kinda yearn for it. The main reason i cancelled is because I have it on desktop and my desktop setup is much more comfortable to use, for any real length of time (Screen-size etc.). If I didn't have the desktop version, I'm pretty sure I'd be using the iPad version...even if it was alongside other platforms.

Even now, if it had native IAA support I'd probably go for it.

I'm just hoping @Samu was right when he suggested that Apple might possibly bundle the desktop and iPad versions in the same subscription. Even if they bundled both for the same price of $5, they'd still make more money than they have over the last 10 years on desktop...even after they factor in the 'NO-SUB!' mutiny from (I reckon) a small minority ;)

  • As a complete dilettante, I have to say that Logic has done it for me. I love AUM and always will, and I find Loopy Pro to be inspiring. I've had a lot of fun with ZenBeats and I think it shows a lot of promise. But when I started using Logic the workflow just clicked right away for me, and I'm getting a lot closer to "finished tracks" than I typically do with those other apps. I definitely get it, that what I'm describing hasn't been everyone else's experience. And there is a long way to go before there's real, true, round-trip compatibility with desktop Logic, and before a lot of pretty glaring gaps and issues are dealt with. That said, I just find it a very comfortable working environment, I can easily grok how the sequencers, piano rolls and clip launcher work, and the built-in patches are second-to-none for iOS DAWs IMO (overlooking the clumsy UI on many of the built-in plugins).

I'm a little concerned that there have been zero updates so far and I agree with @Telstar5 that when that first update does drop, it may say a lot about the future of iPad Logic. But so far I'm sticking with it.

Me too is pretty surprised that Apple haven’t fixed an update yet with the most urgent bugsfixes…
Final Cut Pro for iPad is already on version 1.1 after several updates…

I'm happy the workflow works for you mate. :) All of us are human with different workflows to achieve a track, and luckily for us iOS has a whole plethora of apps to achieve just that. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah, it's like Apple said "Okay, stop complaining you iPad musicians, here ya go!" and that was that, lol. Then again, maybe they're working on adding Flex Pitch into Logic Pro and it's taking a lot of time to make it just right, and if that's the case, yeah I'm redownloading it and resubscribing for at least one month once the update drops.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic said:

I'm not holding my breath for Flex Pitch or swipe comping or other features that are just entirely absent, but my feeling is that there is a long list of features that they intended to have in 1.0 that are not quite there, or have a confusing implementation (multi-output AUv3 handling is a prominent example) and that didn't quite make the 1.0 ship date the way they wanted. So I do think there's a good chance that 1.1 will be a huge update, and that might explain a lot of the delay. Also very possible that they're just giving more attention to Final Cut Pro. I have no idea what the relative sales figures look like.

  • Sooooo even though I subscribed for a year after the trail expired , tbh I still haven’t committed to really using it for full production on the IPad , just basically using it to sketch and idea here and there. I know I can do a lot with it , but part of me still can’t get with doing a large body of work using a paid subscription app. Although I don’t see it happening, but what’s to stop Apple from doubling the subscription price next year or whenever? I’ve had that happen with a video motion graphics apps I was subscribed to called Alight Motion that went from $28 annually to $4.99 a week. I really loved it but wasn’t using it to make money and wasn’t trying to all of a sudden go from paying $28 a year to paying $240 a year. I felt like all the projects I made in it were taken hostage and it left me feeling really hesitant to using subscription apps to create a ton of stuff in. If Logic was an app I could buy and keep I’d definitely do a lot more in it.

Same here. Well, all we can do is wait and see. :)

  • Flex-Pitch and Flex-Time would be handy as would the 'Marquee' tool from Mac Logic which allows one to snap the selection to transients among other things.

Any improvements to the audio editor would be welcomed by me...
...at last allow me normalize, do fade in/out, crop and to save/export a selection as a *.wav file for starters :sunglasses:

I mostly use the 'clip gain' to visually 'normalize' a recordings but I would love to see a 'non destructive' normalize that just sets the clip gain to match a target level set in Peak or LUFS.

There's so many 'smaller' QOL (Quality of Life) things that could be implemented from the Mac version...

But the main gripe for now is the lack of mono legato in Quick Sampler (it's not even preset in the Mac versions and the 'BIG' Sampler has to be used for legato play and on the iPad well, the BIG sampler is a bad playback only joke).

Time will tell when we get an update because I'm pretty sure we'll get one but no one knows when :sunglasses:

  • I never even tried it yet in the end, just downloaded… lol get to the subscription page then I go Naah
    Back to AUM
I use Logic less and less on desktop, I’m just not gravitating towards the UI these days

I’m hoping this fall we will see an update. One small thing is I’d like the back button to back out of the project and back out of the screen to be further apart lol. I keep exiting my projects without wanting to.

Regardless, I’m warming up to Logic a lot more now than I was and it’s slowly becoming my go to DAW I think. It really is a fantastic app. I was all in on Zenbeats for the last 2 years but I find Logic more stable lately. Still 90% in AUM though

  • Does anyone know why the note articulation section is short for some options with the studio instruments? On the studio horns the full list of articulations are only available for 1-2 instruments. The rest only have about half. Even with different instruments of the same type (trumpet 1, 2, etc). Any clues?

My guess is that since we don't have the 'full' Logic Pro desktop libraries in Logic Pro for iPad some articulations might be missing...

I've wrote to them about this too.

I also miss being able to select multiple steps in the Pattern Sequencer to do group-edits for velocity (This is not yet present in the Mac version either).

:) I guess nobody bothered to read the manual or take the lessons :)

in step seq, you can switch the sidebar page and hold and drag the velocity up or down buttons and you can adjust the whole row. YOu can also do a lot of stuff in there.

I know you were saying something about the Flex editor. You can't do manual flex markers for now, but in the track / region inspector you can quantize audio, or even better apply swing :)

I find the current version pretty powerful and worthy for me.
I coupled it with the Novation Launchkey Mini mk3 and boy it's super fun. I am contemplating on selling my MPC one to get some $$$ unblocked.
