Lots of talk about the op-1 field here so I thought I would mention that I heard from a good source that an update is coming soon. I have no idea the details but I’m extremely excited.

If this is true, man, it'll add even more value to the OP-1 Field. :)

  • Yeah, the update will concern drums according to a hint dropped by an insider.

Why does anybody have an opinion on what someone else wants to buy? So fucking weird.

I can see both sides. It’s fine to have an opinion about the worth of a piece of gear to you personally but yeah when you start involving yourself in other people’s purchases to the extent some are here it’s definitely weird.

And then it’s gets even weirder when somebody has an opinion on those who have opinions on what somebody else wants to buy.

Things get even more bizarre when somebody has an opinion about someone who has an opinion regarding somebody who has an opinion about what someone else wants to buy. Fortunately, it’s a nice opinion ;)

Oh yeah I agree with the point you’re making here lol but there are some comments here that sort of go beyond opinion and into trying to talk people out of things (or at least it felt that way) and that’s when it sort of becomes weird for me. Unless you’re they’re wife lol

Jim needs a wife like Simon, yep, would save him a fortune 😂

humm ... I never met anyone, including me, who's wife saved them a fortune. Diverted a fortune to "other" uses yes, but actually saved?? I've never seen it work that way. 😂

My wife does regularly "save" me tons of money by buying herself clothes and shoes on sale though. I return the favor by all the money I "save" us when apps go on sale. At this rate we'll be rich in no time.

Just build it in Drambo, will ya?

    Done.

Ah yeah? But can it sample on the fly and slice via MIDI?

I was imagining a situation where I route audio into one of the tracks in D with Flexi capturing the audio but the first hurdle was already insurmountable. Recording sync to pattern doesn’t record in time. The audio of D’s own metronome is way off with a big gap between the start loop position and the first metronome tick.
I also wish there was a way to slice the recorded material via MIDI so individual slices can be triggered almost immediately after the capture. > @wim said:

    Fair enough Gavin
If you already own an iPad Pro - it’s a bit of a different story , I will concede that

People don't need an iPad Pro tho either, that's the thing, buddy! Plenty of ppl here doing good stuff with more basic ipads and there's a huge market for 2nd hand and refurbished stuff.

As I mentioned in an earlier post tho, the main danger is that many people are not good at saying 'enough is enough' and instead fall down the app buying rabbit hole. I imagine that buyers of the op-1F could also find themselves in that position though, buying lots of other stuff. It's hard for ppl to be satisfied with what they have and our society certainly hasn't bred us to be easily content with what we have.

All comparisons between an iPad and the op1-f is difficult to describe…

All in all, nothing compairs to Teenage Engineerings OP1 Field - lightweight, size, functionality, sound quality, onboard workflow - nothing on the market just now is better or more fun for real synth nerds…

In the same time - really loves my iPad Pro and all 1000 music apps bought since 2009, but, it ain’t an TE…

I agree. Gavin is right, about people spending and knowing enough is enough, but also, I have to just say I 100% with Erkka on this. His main point is the central point - nothing else is like it, nothing else does A-z so well and refined, and yes, you Can get the same results with an iPad, but there is something to his point of all in one function in addition to what echo said, it also has an extremely gorgeous aesthetic appeal. Combine it altogether and with the updates with firmware, you really have an incomparable package.

And I type that from my iPad M1 full disclosure, which I would trade with my apps for anyone who wants to trade their op1f….j/k, I’m keeping my iPad and saving for the op… the only thing I want to know is if recording with AUM is somehow easier or has a better way of routing the incoming audio than cubasis does ? Like for example would you use AUM to separate the 4 tracks in the AUM oR ape matrix mixer before sending out to cubasis or can you do that from the op 1?

Also they make such a damn good pair. IMO, an iPad and an OP-1 is the best setup I’ve ever had and I say that having owned well over 100 HW synths and drum machines, samples, etc over my time in the game. Those 2 together had me doing things and creating in ways I’d never have thought to before. That’s the main reason I want the Field. It just makes you more creative by default. Easily one of the all time great pieces of hardware for my money.

😂😂😂😂 my wife is pretty good with saving but she’s also REALLY good at buying stuff on Amazon. “Huh another package in the mail I see” 😂

But I can’t say anything with my app and music spending. We balance each other out though. Hopefully we’ll be rich like you guys eventually

Well I'm not sure my inevitable OP-1 Field purchase will make me more creative by default. That's definitely subjective. But I expect I'll have some modicum of fun learning the ins and outs of the OP-1 Field while making some midrange cack in the process. Who knows, maybe I can jam with it during my piano gigs. 🤷‍♂️

  • It will make me creative by default, I assure you of thAt (aka , my wife’s boot heel will make sure I stay VERY creative for $2,250 after tax etc  )

Was wondering if he was gonna make a vid about it. Definitely gonna give it a watch. He’s one of my favorite synth YouTubers and one of the few that doesn’t make me wanna rip my hair out some times 😃

    what's your problem ?

  • I've bought, used and then sold several OG OP-1s. I would always end up using Ipad apps more than the OP-1 and it would end up being just a glorified midi controller. The OP-1F came out and added some enticing enhancements but ultimately not $1000 worth of enhancements:)

My conclusion is that the OP-1 Field is Korg Gadget minus the ability to utilize Rex files.

Not any problem with you specifically (you’re a great guy here on Audiobus forum), but, the problem seems to be that some companies, likes TE, have some public “hate” that other companies don’t seems to have, albeit problem with some products…

It’s a pity that some companies got some malicious, etc etc etc…

Sure, Teenage Engineering makes some very expensive products, but, they can be just as fun as an new Yamaha Genos V2 for $6000 (my dreamkeyboard just now)…
