I’ve no doubt that the synth sounds great but i have lots of great sounding synths. The thing which intrigues me about Mariana is the interconnectivity with the Moogerfoogers.

To those of you who have both, do you now feel that the Moogerfoogers are incomplete without Mariana and vice versa? Would you go that far? Does the connectivity offer that much?

Doug Sound Test Room does a brief demo at the start of this video

Thanks for the heads up @FPC. Cheers.

Mariana, lowtone, king of bass, plenty of bass synths this year and people here seem to buy them all. To those who have them all, which one is the best?

I have bought all 3 including the last one from Moog. I am very selective in synth and audio so I deleted quickly king of bass to my opinion it is more a rompler so so bass synth and not the sound quality I want.

Lowtone is pretty good and Mariana is very fresh new but is a Moog that deserve the name and I got all Moog FX bundle so it is top too. Moog lovers as I am will tell you Moog is Moog and that true. But I never push people in GAS and Lowtone is a very deep good bass synth that I love to record and mix.

At this stage Lowtone and Mariana are not overlapping each other and have great character.

To my opinion if you are not particularly a Moog lover and haven’t the Moogfroger Lowtone is a.very very good choice. Forget about King of Bass or even Trooper , Lowtone is far deeper and better but as it is my opinion what think others here ?

  • Does anyone know if we can add text to the note section that opens when accessing presets?
The only way I was able to get the keyboard up was to press the + sign on top left but then it goes into Init mode.
I’d like to make notes for the preset I’m using as it applies to the song I’m using it on.
    Thanks for any responses.

I don’t use this function and I tried following your post and + take me to init and not possible to use the keyboard , not sure it is a bug perhaps not yet implemented ? On IPad Air M1 iOS 17

  • I agree with @Bietfriek we need cross mod between the 2 engines. Please @MoogMusicInc

And yes the keyboard omission is strange since the keyboard is often pivotal in some of these patches and sound design.

Honestly probably the Moog but they’re all worth having and each have their own distinct features, workflow, UI, and sound.

But going on just sound I think Mariana is on top, but not by a huge amount.

I think it’s possible to state your opinion without being dismissive of the other apps at the end by saying to “forget them” or maybe I’m reading it wrong.

I think Trooper sounds fantastic but can’t quite compete with Moog and Lowtone for bass. For leads it’s amazing though.

For King of Bass, it’s more focused on subs and kicks and is more like a bass synth made from the classic 808 bass sound. So it’s a bit too niche to be a general purpose app but still sounds fantastic.

I agree that I am quite direct. I see as counter productive to have all bass synth but to select very few. I do not intend to dismiss an app synth but to go direct on what synth it is better to focus.

Do you think it is better to state take it the end to use only one or to select one or 2 and that’s ok ?

I answered the question what to choose between the 3 as I need one. Straight to the point is better my personal way of life and my way according to my experience. Not easy to choose between the Moog and the Lowtone as you state also. My problem with Mariana is that it is so new that our experience is limited and we detect just now some problems.

Lowtone we know it better to say you can buy it without problems. The GUI is an other aspect but personally I encounter a real problem only with the BA-1 of Baby Audio as I couldn’t read the labels so tiny , my personal problem, I am not alone and it is a pity as I find the BA-1 a very surprising interesting synth.

My opinion is always only my opinion so I will tried to explain why I dont like a synth. I don’t like all Moog apps , I am not fan of the Model 15 , not a sound problem but a GUI that cause me personally many problems to use it on an IPad or small screen.

  • I do not have Low Tone…yet…

But I do have King of Bass (like stated above…good for kicks, I get annoyed having to turn off the arp a lot)

I also have Dagger…I love me some dagger and find it to be quite different than Mariana…which to me, is a good thing. I can use dagger where Mariana doesn’t fit and vice versa.

I also have monarch and diva on my Mac…(both a tad heavy at times, but both great)

I also own a dreadbox Typhon (Typhon is mind blowing in use…it’s far better than I thought it would be when I ordered it)

I will say so far…it’s Mariana and Typhon for the win…Typhon sounding a bit more raw and untamed, but Mariana shaking my entire studio thru my sub and monitors.

For 50 bucks on Mac, Mariana is still a winner winner digital chicken dinner! On iPad for 15 bucks sheesh…my Dairy Queen order was more…and that was totally analog

Plus sign on top left? Do you have a screenshot of that by any chance? Or maybe you're referring to the desktop version, because the auv3 doesn't seem to have a + sign anywhere on the UI, sadly.

If you tap the preset name at the very top of the UI a section will open on the right with preset info. Just above “preset name” on the top left is a + sign. iPad version.
I’m wondering now if that is for developer notes only and can’t be changed.

Ah, sorry, I totally misunderstood - I was looking for a way to access a keyboard as in midi keyboard - you’re talking about access to the iPad keyboard for typing, got you.

Has anyone managed to get another Moog AUv3 keyboard to send midi correctly to this one? I tried just now with sending from Animoog Z AUv3 and I got it working, but once I switched my Mariana settings to Duophonic for that patch, I was not able to get normal behaviour when using the Animoog Z keyboard to trigger. I need to play around more, it, tbh, this shouldn’t even be necessary.

@MoogMusicInc do you guys have any workaround to suggest to us? Could we please just get a keyboard option added to the Mariana AUv3? With an expressive instrument like this, it is genuinely really problematic not to have a keyboard in the AUv3, as most hosts do not have a suitable keyboard for AUv3 playing. Love the app but this omission is bothering me a lot. A separate keyboard app that can be loaded as a midi AUv3 and moved freely around the screen, including on top of other apps, would be most useful.

    This synth is the bomb
I mean, just layering of this bass under another synth really adds fullness to the spectrum

Oh good, they’re still doing the fun names.

I think it's reference to "Mariana Trench" - deepest known place on earth .. you know, like it makes deep basses :-)))

  • This makes 🌊 LOW Tones by Tonebooster/Cyclop my #2/3in ios, guessing i instabroke my app fast for this, your correct Foogers benefit, i enjoy these, insane modulated bass , check 😂
😊 the higher CV resolution (try cutoff sweep slow) is cool plus a added iap can summons a Melange Spice worm on Arakkis. "Muab Deeb" yes it is a deep bass that warms the soul's sensibility and with the apropos name! Soulumesence inducing when instanciating cymatic r3sonance under water 💧 Wow 🤩

Haha, are you saying there is a preset called Muab Deep inside an IAP pack? I didn't see any iap preset of that name, what's the actual name of the patch?

Definitely one of the best things about the Moog synths is the quality of the presets, whether IAP or factory . Staggeringly good, usually.

Man totally forgot about the Typhon. I wanted one so bad when it came out but I ended up passing on it. I do miss having a Dreadbox synth around though. They make the best sounding modern analog synths (imo) outside of maybe the OB6 and Grandmother.

  • Mariana is really a must in bass synth , remenber me a studio session with a musician using Moog Minautor.
More I use it more I think this is the best bass synth you can have. Lowtone is really good but Moog put bass synth at an other level and for the price on Desktops or iOS that really a deal.

As someone state all Moog IAP sounds are really good. This professional and not to use the Pro as a marketing trick , the true pro brands don’t use the Pro in their product names.

I think that most daw that are on desktop and more and more on iOS are pro not only Logic. Pro is just for a tool a pro can use to make a living doing music or audio. Pro as nothing to do with the price . DT 770 headphones are for over 40 years on all studios including the most famous ones but this is an headphones made by Bayer Dynamic that a beginner can enjoy for 80 usd and that he will use for many decades. At the opposite Beats are far more expensive but they are not pro at all never I will advise someone to use them to mix or record. Same for Apple costly earbuds.

Just a question of an old man , how do you do to use an iPhone to create music or work serious audio ?

Personally I can’t too smal for my eyes and my fingers. I use my iPhone to make calls , sms and take photos and mail that a lot 😂.

Asking serious brands make it fit for iPhone screen seems to me a challenge but if that can increase deeply their sales the new Moog management will do it but if it is just for some guys not useful to bother about your iPhone needs. That reality not a judgement.

I use Loopy Pro on iPhone and iPad. It’s obviously small on iPhone but you get used to it. If my auv3s work on both I can start a project on iPad, then airdrop it to iPhone and seamlessly continue where I left off, then airdrop back again. There’s workarounds like committing to audio but who needs workarounds ;)

Moog have always made all of their apps work beautifully on both devices (even model 15!) so I don’t think it’s a big ask. I totally respect their decision to switch to iPad only if that’s what’s happening, but it makes me less likely to buy Mariana personally.
