Oh, what is this place?! It looks fantastic! Now I love Glasgow too, haha. 😅

This is at Kelvingrove Museum/gallery. Loads of cool stuff there. Free entry. And there’s an organ recital every day at 1pm
I took pics of these heads on different settings,… will upload in a sec…

You nailed it with this one! The composition and choice of the face. It's perfect with night mode, all that contrasty green and dramatic red spill is marvelous.

On quite a few occasions XP4N loads and starts showing the video feed in the viewfinder but then goes black after I tap to change the film.

The only way to get it working again is to force quit and start over. Then it’s usually ok again for a while.

The last time was directly after updating to the latest version.

So it seems if I launch the app then double tap the viewfinder to switch lenses immediately, the viewfinder goes black and the only way to get it back is to force quit and reopen.

Right... so it tries to change the capture session to change lenses before a capture session has actually been initialised properly. That's really helpful, I can fix that!

    Cheers!

FYI: Mine is back to doing this also, even after the delete reinstall

Can you see a pattern when it happens (similar to what @klownshed was describing... e.g. changing lenses quickly after reopening)?

I did a ~2 hour test walk yesterday, constantly closing it, putting it to the background, reopening, using other apps, etc. and it didn't act up once :/

Mine too. The art, the people, the museums, the pubs and the contrasts - a bit like Edinburgh shines more by its looks and Glasgow shines more by what happens there.

I tried to induce the same problem but without success. (iOS 17.7, iPhone 15 Pro Max, XP4N 1.0.10.) Who knows what it could be?

I’m careful with updating XP4N lately, that’s why the old version. 🫣

I could with some effort reproduce the black screen issue (although it would still take pictures in my case). I had to tap the app icon and then immediately rapidly double-tap the screen. @klownshed must have some amazing finger drumming skills to pull this off consistently :D

If I test it, it never happens. If I'm out and see something I'd like to photograph, that's when it goes black. It knows. ;)

Thank you! I feel like I have a different aesthetic to the 'average' and don't like saturated colours and hyper-realism. I don't want to take photos of sunsets and boost saturation to retina-overload levels lol

I don't ever know if I'm any good at it. I usually think nobody else will like it!

I like gritty, gnarly black and white (or subtle colours). That's also how I like my music ;)

Sometimes you can’t escape the beauty of nature. There is no display in existence who can reproduce all that sensation of colors and dynamic range.

XP4N essentially removes the colors, so it’s good, but from standard iPhone photos, even I, who love everything dramatic and colorful, need to subdue that unnatural saturation.

@brambos Would you consider a new option under settings to capture ALL 6 film types with just one shutter press? I know it’s ‘cheating’ and not like the old days, when you picked your film and took your chances but, this is 2024 and I end up shooting the same shot 6 times anyway, just to see the results. I can’t be alone can I? 😬🤞

You are not alone. In my fantasy version of this feature (which shouldn't exist in a US$1 app), you would check the formats you want: e.g., night, balanced, and gritty.

That is an excellent idea! Almost like an exposure bracket function. I end up doing multiple captures too.

And I know I keep asking for this, but a simple level display line is, I think, a must for an aspect ratio so wide. If you need to correct the horizon in post, you can lose a lot of real estate.
