Instabuy as always regarding Paul’s great apps!!
This looks great. I’ve been looking at a pc vst called MIDI Madness that allows for a lot of tweaking as well, so it’s nice to see something similar coming to iOS.
It’s out!!

Was looking at Stacks and Strokes but my money goes on this now.
great app, lots to explore !!
I've already got a question: I'm setting a particular note, but I want to be able to randomize around that note with a range that I want to choose (not completly random, relativ random :-) ). Is that possible? not found at the moment :-(
Wonderful….
yes!!
A wonderful tool. I would wish that disabled notes would not simply disappear, but the slider remain active. On a hardware analog sequencer I can adjust and “prepare” a disabled note for the next time I enable it.
The same applies to the unused notes when the sequence length is less than 16.
I think best would be like in “TIE” mode, when the slider is visible as a ghost note.
And it’s great that it can do Note On syncing. Although in my case this is behaving very erratic. Anybody having the same problem?
CORRECTION: I misunderstood the Note On sync feature. It just resets the sequencer and keeps it running for the length of the Note On. I was assuming it actually clocks the sequencer on every Note On.
Just a short video showing MidiStep in action. Great tool
The video was very impressive and that only scratched the surface of the app. I’m really interested in this app.
Waiting for The Soundtest Room to do a review.
Wondering if you are supposed to be able to use multiple CC modulations at once. Right now in both AUM and ApeMatrix I can only use 1 CC modulation at a time. If I switch to edit a second modulation it stops outputing the unselected modulations. Not sure if this is intended or not.
Aside from this potential bug it’s a pretty awesome sequencer with a large amount of possibilities and a pretty easy to use/understand Ui
What you’re describing is a very dope feature & we should pitch that to Paul to be added.
This is a great idea! Like the cue feature on mixers.
Talking about cueing: A cue mode for patterns would be great: Tap a pattern button to cue it. The actual pattern change happens when the current pattern has finished instead of switching immediately.
This makes me think of Neon by Aaron Meyers and the sequencer from EG Nodes combined with even more useful features. I've been staying away from buying apps lately but I'm very tempted especially since I have Helium and it looks like it pairs up with it pretty well.
Bought. Not disappointed at all, but it’s no substitute for Quantum. Or maybe I just like the fact that it fits my AUM f^ckery as an AUv3 and I’m willing to sacrifice a bit of what I’ve already come to expect from Quantum.
The disappearing sliders is annoying - grey them out if they aren’t active, otherwise you can see the note that would be active on that step.
Great work Paul
Tried also in logic pro; only “selected” modulation lane seems to work. If I edit modulation lane 1 it works; if I then select and edit modulation lane 2 only mod2 works. If I then select select mod1, mod1 works and mod2 not. If I then select “sequencer”, either mod1 & mod2 are jot working.
Yes. That’s how I was experiencing it.
It seems like a bug as in the MidiStep description these lanes are defined as independent.
In AUM, seems you must open the modulation page for presets saved with modulation to work…
Same here - only selected modlane sendes cc in Cubasis. It is nice - the chords are super nice as well as all the scales.
I am not retirering Thesys just yet.
Is there a way to rotate a pattern one step at the time?
I am still trying to decide between this or strokes as my next app. Strokes is a more all in one groovebox with the ability to MIDI out but midisteps looks more strait forward …., Probably both eventually lol
You have to admit that despite its notable similarity with MIDIsteps, the name he chose is still better than ASS (Aleatoric Step Sequencer).
This reminds me so much of my desktop sequencer Stepic.
Maybe too much in my opinion.
I
Basically Stepic for iPad. It's nice, but c'mon?
this app is so cool! exactly what i have been waiting for on ios !
**Update 10/14/22 2:12 pm US Central
Looks like this is fixed in version v1.01 B59 RC
My testing shows it working now under same conditions shown in video.
**Update: Per Paul at 4Pockets this issue has been identified and a fix will be available as soon as humanly possible.
**Edit: Correction from previous initial post - I do see the behavior. Multiple modulation lanes output CC values, but only one follows the slider values at a time, even though they all continue to send data, and once the focus is switched away from the Modulation tab, the values stop updating, even though the CC messages continue to be sent.
