i love the new slide option!!!exactly what i was missing from the app.let's make some crazy 303 acid bass lines now!!
Using one of the sequencers modulation tracks to trigger its own randomisation this way works a treat.
I know …I’m just really comfortable with my work flow . At some point though I’m gonna have to try something else
I hope for more drum mappings/ability to save user mappings.
If it’s working! Stick to it that’s the most important thing
+1 on that ^^ !!
This is a fantastic update. Midistep has really transformed into something new with these last few updates, and I'm really enjoying it, and at the same time trying to keep up with the changes. The pattern creation is a game changer for me - having a starting point like a motif or pattern and then modifying and transforming it is a lot more appealing than just clicking the random button and adjusting different randomization parameters (although it's much more nuanced than that). Plus the new Legato slide is just so cool.
Is there any video tutorial on this? How to do this?

Thank you ! That's awesome and great to see these tutorial videos. Respect to the developer
I have scaler2 and a lot of MIDI sequencers….
Everyone still reccomend this one??
And it’s not microscopic!!! Yessss
I noticed a small bug on the app.
On loopy pro the au parameter for octave randomization is affecting all the other sequencer and modulation lanes. Not sure if i can hear any difference when the action is triggered but i can see it on the app on the other lanes.i did not noticed this behavior on the other au parameters.i have sent an e-mail along with a video on support .hope it will fixed on later updates.
MidiStep and Thump One are my two black friday favorites. MS packs a lot of features, I think it works well alongside Scaler (neither replacing the other one). Watching the 7 masterclass videos should give you a good idea. Also note the small details, like drag-and-drop of midi from clipboard icon straight into for instance Drambo (or maybe Koala?) without having to deal with recording, file export etc.
Can anyone save the pdf manual from the help section? It won’t save for me.
Saving fine here, both from standalone and AUv3. Are you using the latest version of the app?
Formatting is strange (very long pages) but that seems the case with other 4Pockets apps…
Edit: It seems the PDF files it has saved are incomplete. Interestingly, they are of different lengths when save from iPad vs iPhone, but both are not saved fully.
Cannot find any contact details anywhere to provide feedback…
It's too big to attach, so here's a Box link to download it - https://app.box.com/s/0p5uwvfp2de78e069954si7yq5yp6lmy
That file is also incomplete for me too.
I have contacted 4 Pockets through Facebook telling them the issues with creating a PDF manual. No reply yet.
I want to trigger (ideally) 6 or 8 different voices on a hardware synth, using Midistep, using midi channels 1-8
Is this possible , using one instance (in AUM)? Or do I need to open 8 instances of Midistep?
Sorry if that's a dumb question
Update: I think, unfortunately, it's multiple instances. Just watching Paul's "masterclass" vids on Midistep, and in video 3 he has 3 Midisteps open, named "bass' "Synth" and "guitar".
I was hoping it would be like Polybud, or Senode, or Fugue Machine where I could send multiple midi outs within one instance of the app.....oh well
It seems so. Midistep has one output using a single MIDI channel. From what I can understand (and I have watched all the Masterclass videos), the idea is for each instance to perform one function, as you observed in the video. Each instance is geared toward performing on a single instrument, although you could certainly insert another MIDI processor between Midistep and multiple instruments by rerouting based on note range (which you could do with Midilayers for example, and send the bass notes to a bass instrument for example).
Along those lines, I've already inquired with Paul, the developer, what the strategy is to create an entire performance using Midistep, and how those multiple instances would function together, and he provided some insight there. My current takeaway for that situation is that you need to set the key and scale on each instance so that they are compatible, and then adjust any notes that may be "wrong" when generated, and that might conflict with notes from other instances. Paul is aware of the interest in ways to combine multiple instances to work together, so hopefully his wizardly mind will offer something along those lines in the future!
You can copy state between multiple instances through the menu, which would carry over the scale, key, and other stuff, so that helps a bit when working with multiple instances for one project. It would probably be best to set up sort of a master instance first with all the stuff that you want to be in common, and then use that to copy to all other possible instances that you would be using.
I know this went a bit beyond the original question, but figured this might be helpful information for other questions that you or others might have or which might arise. Hope it helps!
I've spoken with 4 Pockets and they are preparing a fix for the help file not saving properly. They hope to have it out before Xmas.
Thanks for the update.
What's makes the one I posted incomplete? I'm not doubting that it's borked in some way -- just curious how so.
If you scroll to the end of the downloaded PDF, and then compare it to the help inside the App, the downloaded file is truncated.
Totally helpful! Am glad you went beyond the original question - thanks for your input
Ok, so it would seem that this app isn't what I thought. It's still wonderful, and versatile and I will use it, but I made assumptions about it that I shouldn't have.....ah well.
Glad other folks are thinking the same though, and yes, let's hope Paul implements something like multiple midi lanes so that we can make local tweaks to each voice, but then make global changes that affect everything. Having to change things in 5 or 6 instances of midistep mean it's not usable in a live setting for me
Glad to see some Thump One love. I dig the sound of it, compliments my Jim Audio stuff - started using TOne on the bass channel of Pure Acid, compliments Mood synth really well too. Gives me Night Club vibes
But, back to MidiStep- those masterclass videos are very helpful.
Tone packet comes to mind for some reason. Can't say why. But there ya go.
Thanks man - looks way too complicated for my stoopid brain though....
Paul said something in one of the vistas about "being intentional with your steps(notes), and this was like serendipitous to me as my girl says that I need to move more intentional and stop finding grooves in chaos- it's like audible paradolia or something- without diverging too much- this sentiment of being intentional stayed with me during each step and the end result was extremely rewarding.
Paul gave us all what we wanted, the ability to randomize everything (16x over) and it works great, but being intentional with each note feels oddly rewarding. Whatever 'opamine that gets released, it's a good'n

.
Just a quick reminder, as mentioned above, the MasterClass videos for MidiStep are well worth checking out. Additionally, for those who also like to have documents to reference, there is a set of video companion guides which (as of today) includes all of the videos #1 - #7 for MidiStep. They are not a replacement for the videos, but I find them helpful to reference specific steps or details on features that are covered in the videos. I'm trying to keep up but Paul keeps on cranking out these updates and videos like a machine! Does the man ever sleep?! 🤣

Thanks for doing this! Really well laid out. Amazingly helpful.
