It’s begging for a Jump feature on the ‘Step Option’ section.. Having those steps do programmed chaos (As The MidiSTEPs’s RESET feature does), but ‘Jump to’ selected steps would be hypnotic… It will be nice to slow down, or speed up randomization across all sections too.

    Thanks for making.. pretty nice..

This reminds me so much of my desktop sequencer Stepic.

Maybe too much in my opinion.

    I
Basically Stepic for iPad. It's nice, but c'mon?

Yes, I actually think I'm going to pass on this one. I have Stepic and use the Mac more these days.
I'm quite happy with some of 4Pockets apps: RingsFX, StringLab; others have been a source of frustration and yet a few too close to "originals" like WaveCloud to Quanta, the M4L Euclidean sequencer and then this.

Off Topic: the other similar sequencer Neon by Aaron Meyers is great but is so heavy on the graphics that my old iPad can't cope with it. Even my M1 MacBook Air had trouble with it and those never ending "rolling" menus were driving me crazy.

nice! So many options :-) Reminds a little of Cykel

  • Having fun with this one. Can you change patterns using midi notes?

  • @auxmux said:

Pattern selection can be done via an AUv3 parameter. So the answer is yes if you use a host like AUM that allows one to map notes to an AUv3 parameter.

  • hi : a simple evolution future :-)

propose the value 1 for "chord complexity", which would make it possible to choose the notes to be played randomly (after select them in the chord editor), in mono, to add a possibility of control randomness for those who need it

MidiStep is a powerful and inspirational polyphonic step sequencer, and a dream for lovers of complex rhythms and generative music creation tools. The program uses sophisticated, user-controlled randomization to generate notes and chords with a variety of parameters, including note values, note length, chords, patterns, velocity, gate, dividers, repeats, swing, and many more.

You have complete control over what, when, and how much is randomized on a step-by-step basis. You can easily create patterns that have little to no variation, patterns that maintain a recognizable pattern but have some degree of variations to the notes, velocity, etc., all the way to patterns with extreme randomness with every pass - the degree of randomization is completely under your control for every parameter and for every step of a pattern.

Was kind of on the fence on this one, but the short bit at 8:35 in the video blew my mind... using Helium to control the chord sequences in MidiStep. I'd like to see more videos on this feature since it was only briefly mentioned in this video.

Yep.. this is nice .. using it with iBassist’s ‘Chord Output’.. so many variations… and Custom Scales is amazing… pretty nice for Ver. 1

  • Has anyone tried using the Transpose - Arp or Poly modes yet? I'm able to use Transpose Mono and it works perfectly, but when I feed it chords from Helium (for example) using Transpose: Poly or Transpose: Arp Up, for example I'm not finding a combination of notes and chord settings that changes at all if I disengage Helium. I'm sure there's a way. Might have to wait for the Masterclass.

  • Does this allow you to send parameter locks per step out to your synth/effects similar to elektron?

I can’t really find any videos on the app, idk if that’s because of the app name or if only one video exists

It’s has a modulation section with 8 sub lanes for 8 lanes of dedicated modulation. Per step values can be entered for each of these lanes.

Nice! I can work with that!

    Version 1.09 B59 RC released
Fix for Modulation lane issue which prevented you from sending two lanes at once.

Multiple mod lanes in action shown via the wonderful takeamidi app by Alex Nadzharov:

**Edit: Changed photo to highlight features.

Great. Takeamidi could do with different colours for each cc mod.

This needs a way to change patterns easily. The AU parameter for pattern change is not the best because you can't select an individual pattern easily. Ideally, each pattern should be its own AU parameter so you can define a note or PC to change a specific pattern.

Alternatively, it should allow pattern changes by note input similar to other AUs.

Not getting Poly and Arps to respond either.. Maybe it’s me..

This works - you have to use the Key Sync mode. It’s actually demonstrated in the Preview Video, but not specifically mentioned but you can see the setting he is using if you zoom in:

    According to Paul…

There are two ways to change pattern remotely, AU Parameter or MIDI CC 54 with a value = pattern.

Ohhhh excellent news about the midi cc to change patterns.

  • Seems MasterClass #1 is out…

I get loads of crashes in AUM and I can't add a second instance because that crashes AUM, with a bang, which are quite unusual.

I deleted the app, force restart and then reinstalled. Same issue when adding a second instance.

What's his handle here? Or, a good email (I saw in a video he had more than 700 unread emails so ... 🤣.
I could do a video but it's very straight forward. Open a fresh AUM sesh and in a midi channel: add MS, then add one more, either by copy or get it in the menu. Doesn't matter. Poof! Aum closes.

  • Here is my first video walkthrough MidiStep.
@Pxlhg that's odd, I'm running 5 instances in AUM during the entire video.
