How does the keyboard function work I enabled it but can’t seem to bring anything up in AUM I watched Fred’s intro video?
You have to specifically select aube as your keyboard in the same way you would switch between text input and emoji input.
Cheers Gav sorted it now after playing with the globe symbol. Haven’t changed keyboards much before use the odd symbol that’s it. Pretty clever stuff.
@FredAntonCorvest a couple of small issues:
Audiothing Dials and Reels do not appear in Aube at all, even though they are installed on my device. They're not detected when Aube starts up, and not found in any section (including default) and also do not show up in search.
Another more minor issue: if I uninstall plugins from my device, they still show up in Aube.
That's a good suggestion. Currently most of the space in the AUBE keyboard window is empty/wasted. I can see max 5 items there (or 4 if I don't click the up arrow), while the AUM search box shows up to 3 times as many (on a 12.9 iPad).
In January 2021 I wroted on AB Foum a question:
"If there is no such app in appstore, maybe some music app developer are going to write it?" - LINK
That person turned out to be Fred Anton Corvest and that is a great news
After starting the thread I have prepared a simple concept for such an app and thought that maybe I will try, but I haven't even started I'm not a programmer. The idea was for any apps, but with an emphasis on the music ones. FAC: If some ideas will come in handy in AUBE then please feel free to use it Link to AppArr concept in PDF file.
@FredAntonCorvest: Great app! I was waiting for it I have questions / thoughts as well:
Despite the intention of cataloging AUV3 apps. Are you considering adding the ability to catalog another than AUV3 music apps as well, like eg. IAA? (in a separate tab, etc.) to make the AUBE app to be a complete compendium of our all music apps?
Automatic categories is a great idea! One unified template for all to get along quickly. On the other hand as the previous speakers mentioned would be nice to have also possibility of creating own categories and assigning apps according to it ourself as well. I think that everyone have own preferences / naming convention / different idea of ordering - to find what we are looking for.
It's a real pitty that Apple doesn't allow to check purchase history in a secure way through third party app. Without this feature we don't know exactly what music apps we purchased in the past and what we can download again and use. Do you think Apple policy in this matter might change in the future?
It is a good idea / workaround, to know more or less what we purchased / what is installed / what is not installed but can be install again. I think there could be a switch in the current "List" tab, that show
A: only installed apps (like now),
B: all apps of a given Developer we purchased (installed or not, not installed apps could be in grey color) and
C: all music apps of all Devlopers.
This way after expanding the full list we could check what else can we purchase AND most of all by click manually through the entire AppStore ourself and installing all purchased apps finally build a local database according to you concept to having all information in one database. (eg. green = installed, red = purchased but not installed, grey = not purchased)
Is there any way to configure the keyboard extension to be only available in selected apps (AUv3 hosts) ? I notice that even when I have closed AUM and want to write an email for example, it is using the AUBE keyboard and I have to switch. Not a big deal with the quick switch button, but maybe this can be done automatically ?
Amazing! AUBE is what I’m looking for to organize all my AUv3. When will it be available? I hope soon.
It's already available
It’s nice to have visual confirmation that I am not the biggest app addict out there with my mere 511 AUv3’s… (I’m looking at you @Jumpercollins and @White 👀) Great app!
This is really embarrassing.
I've done my app-cleanup (and still continue to slim down slack I don't use) but I feel it's still a bit too many...
Total 200 apps installed on the device including various time-wasters and system stuff.
I truly admire that discipline @Samu ! I could learn from it but probably won't...
@ALB You have a problem, but admitting it is the first step! Also, here's your award:
so does this automatically catalog and asia apps to categories, or do I need to manually do that when first opening the app?
LOL, It's easier to remove the slack-apps when the 'cream of the crop' remains (Everything from FabFilter, ToneBoosters, Bleass, Eventide, FAC etc. etc.).
Yes, and I am genuinely embarrassed. I see this as a two-headed beast: the first and most pressing is that I simply buy too many of these apps. Now that these are getting more expensive, I have to stop or cut back severely. The second, easier aspect is getting rid of things that I don’t use - a great deal as you might imagine (but doesn’t really address the core problem).
It would be nice if the icon would open the app when touched. When u hit the info tab it can be opened from the app store which is still easy to do. Thank u Fred for thinking outside of your box on this one. What a great idea that i’m sure will get better with time.
so can I manually add dawnbeat to my sampler category ?
It automatically does that. Hopefully some way of making your own custom categories will come too tho
No because it's not an AUv3 plug-in...
You'll also notice that Cubasis, NS2 etc. are missing for this very reason.
524 AUv3s…. 😭
holy crap…. I think i may have a problem
Thinking about getting it. What I really want is the ability to add notes to plugins, like favorite synth for x, favorite thing to combine with y. Some way to just type “Patterning” and have that be in an AUM node so I don’t have to wait a minute for Patterning to not load since it’s not AU. Reminder notes or fake placeholder AU with IAA names to later open the few of those in rotation.
Session notes AU for that just looks like an eq in the AUM effects slot.
In addition to the favorites star, would there be any chance of getting an additional small set of user definable tags. (Suitable for labeling apps as “currently studying”, “instant gratification”, “make more presets” or similar stuff to give users another layer of organization to their workflow.)
Alternatively, leave it as is and I’ll still love it anyway. 😀❤️ It’s really helpful.
I beat you all!
One thing this is useful for, is for when you’re talking about an app or apps here on the forums, you can simply switch to the AUBE page on your keyboard and tap to add the app with the link to it in the AppStore!
Again, that’s only useful when you’re talking about or describing an app or apps here on the AudioBus forums. Not that that happens much around here 🙄 /s
(Examples)
From a simple single tap in my AUBE keyboard extension
MIDI Processor AuV3 Instrument: Mela Midi by Nikolozi
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1612218703
MIDI Processor AuV3 Instrument: Aphelian by Aphelian Labs
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1435855056
Of course this wouldn’t work for apps you don’t own and have installed on your device.
Actually, that'd be a cool feature - if it had an option to let u explore all available auv3 apps in the app store, but in AUBE instead - given how appalling search is there.
Imagine hitting 'saturation' and it just shows all saturation apps that exist. instead of reading 14 different audiobus threads, and searching the app store for ages. um.. yes this repeatedly happens to me...
You know what's great? That when I got this app, I was worried I might have too many apps. I've been so very reassured by posts like yours!
I only noticed yesterday when using the app store, that search has improved phenomenally, showing way more apps when I put in a search term. It gives me hope!
I'd love that @FredAntonCorvest
