Is a Logic Pro for iPad version update in the works?

:D ! If I worked for Apple the first thing I would do is providing a fix for the UI resize bug on the Logic Pro macOS version! (but this is another story)

If I was working at Apple I will release a pro IPad with headphones jack and 2 USB connectors first and as no very serious pro will use Logic iPad as main daw I will think to make it easier Logic IPad , no to drive in hidden menus and geek tricks but better AUX helped with AI assistant for people like me that have not anymore the brain of a geek.

Apple without Steve and Ives is a boat without a good sailor that care about AUX. Tim Cook is everything but not a genius.

AI assistant is not for the dogs it is to male human life better, workflow better and help people to make music not to drive in hidden weird menus on a IPad.

Signed by a past top team leader dev , that is now with brain problems to learn in deep.

Sorry to say, but Jony Ive was great because of Jobs, who pushed him like no one else. All of his product design work post-Jobs has been sub-par and directionless. He doesn’t work at Apple anymore and that’s one positive. He was making iOS unusable as head of UI design.

Steve was really pushing everyone to its limits , I agree that he was pushing Ives too like other. Not only at Apple but Pixar studios later. Steve follow art courses and calligraphy courses too. Ives was doing sometime 100 prototypes and at the end it was Steve decision.

Only one decision seems strange for me , it was about removing headphones jacks , I can’t remenber the timing , officially it was design decisions to make thinner devices but it is not true. It was to go wireless 🛜 headphones and after or before they bought beats. Steve as badly Ill so not sure it was it decision.

With a friend in electronic we hacked a iPhone to put a jack it was easy and the iPhone nor actual iPad are so thin that it was impossible to put a jack. Inside the new IPad Pro you got all the room to host up to 3 USB ports so why only one ? Ports don’t change the design at all. Bigger is the creep thicker should be a IPad to avoid to foil the screen.

You can say that I am a bit to focus on ports inside IPad but for pro in music and videos and even for us it is not a small detail isn’t it ?

  • Hey there!

@FredAntonCorvest, I just got AUBE and wanted to express my gratitude – it's genuinely helpful for organizing plugins in an Ableton and Bitwig style. I didn't know it's been discussed or not, so I'd like to suggest a small addition that, in my opinion, would make AUBE even more user-friendly.

I think it would be awesome if we have the option to display custom tags at the bottom of the screen instead of the standard ones. For example, starting with MIDI, then synthesizers, followed by equalizers with compressors, and so on. This would definitely simplify the process and reduce the number of clicks.

Currently, to select a specific tag, user have to open the tag menu, make the selection, and then return to the main window. Also, if a plugin has only one tag and a user accidentally selects two active tags, he need to go back to the menu and deactivate the unnecessary one. It slows down the workflow a bit, and I would be grateful if you could consider improving this functionality.

Thanks a lot for your hard work and attention to details!

I have to make a comment here about this app. I see it’s asking me MONEY to update the database. So few points:

    • the developper is getting inputs for new Audio Units from users for FREE then wants to SELL it
    • There is a TAG section when you select an audio unit , where you can set your own tags BUT this section is not available for Audio Units currently not in database, so I have Combustor for example in the list but I can’t edit the tags. I have to PAY for the database update first.
    1. I should be able to manually update/Edit the database that I PAID for
    2. I should be able to EDIT TAGS in listed Audio Units even if not in the database
    3. I Will NOT PAY for a database update just because 3 new Audio Units are missing in the database

I like the other apps from this developer but there is clearly a MONEY GRAB scheme here with this app. Big thumbs down.

Hi there @Ozsound - not sure if you fully realise this, but if you don't want to pay for the IAP to immediately update the database, you can just wait for the next version of the app release, when the database gets automatically updated for free.

So it just depends how patient you are, really.

  • @Ozsound said: the developper is getting inputs for new Audio Units from users for FREE then wants to SELL it

This is harsh :/ be reassured it's not the case!

    • You pay the new AUv3 classifications via the IAP (valid for 90 days!) So this AUv3 belongs to this group, having features X...
    • The classification is not trivial and takes time, every week new AUv3 plugins are released!
    • It’s not as simple as throwing the submitted apps without any added values, it's done by hand (for obvious reasons)

A couple of users have a FREE access to the IAP because they already submitted AUv3 plugins.
The IAP is $ 0,99 for 90 days… So clearly not a money grab scheme…

You don’t need the IAP if you don’t have new AUv3 plugins!

Check the website, section "It is worth mentioning that..."

“The submitted audio units will be classified by us and added to the AUBE database”

    • The latest version of the database is included for FREE in each new AUBE app update provided via the App Store
    • There is no schedule defined, a new AUBE app update is released when new features are added or bugs fixed
    • You can purchase a 90 days access to the latest database versions on the AUBE store (In-app consumable purchase)
    • Getting the latest version of the database via the AUBE store is quicker, and it's a great way to support AUBE :)

@Ozsound said: There is a TAG section when you select an audio unit , where you can set your own tags BUT this section is not available for Audio Units currently not in database

There are technical reasons behind this. Constraint are there, if you want to add a tag on a new AUv3, update the database via the IAP or wait for an AUBE update.

Hey so I never noticed before, the IAP for the database access gives you an updated list without having to wait on an App Store official update correct?

    Feature ideas:

For those who have tons of AU and end up forgetting about them: Random AUv3 suggestions

For those who AUBE a lot, recently used AUv3, AUv3 usage over time. Auv3 chains uploaded by users, AUv3 notations 1 to 5 stars, sort by popularity

  • as much as i love the other FAC apps, this was one of the very few refunds i have done. It seems the description was not clear enough to me. I was hoping for an AU browser to find new toys easier (i‘m still open for tips!) but i have zero need for an app that tells me what i have already installed.

It’s not only “just telling you what you already own” it has uses outside of that and I find it pretty useful at times.

Someone did recently post an app for what you’re wanting though. It’s probably a few pages back.

well, it‘s obviously only my personal opinion 😉 I did not write that it‘s generally useless etc…

But I‘m well organized on my ipads and every now and then i delete stuff that i don‘t use/need anymore. That prevents me from having countless apps on my devices.

Thanks for the hint, i‘ll look for the other app now.

No problem. I would tell you the name of the app but I intentionally forget it to try and keep myself from spending more money 😅

For me, AUBE is pretty useless. I really don't use it at all.
This may sound mean but it not meant to be.
Let me explain what, for me, would instantly change AUBE from useless to my most used helper app.

Search for groups, categories and features

    Thats it!
I really don't understand why this is not implemented when the database is the center of the app.
I don't need an app where i can search for AUv3 name or manufacture name. Most AUv3 hosts are good enough for this.

I want to enter "delay" in the search bar of the app or the keyboard and get all delays listed. Maybe even when i just entered "del".
Or I enter "phys" or "mod" and get all physical modelers.
    Or "add" for additive synths.

Simply put, i want to search by features, not names.
This would make it an indispensable tool for me.

    Yes, i know.

    • First i have to tab on effect or instrument
    • Then i have to tab the pin
    • Then i have to scroll through a long list
    • The tab what i want

Sorry, way to slow and clunky.
Why not enter "lim" and get all Limiters?

  • Tested the keyboard again, after a long time.
It's OK. The list is alphabetically sorted, that was not always that way.
I can probably live with it even i would prefer entering words.
So I take my rant back
... and will try to use it more

I see what you mean. That does sound useful but I can see how searches between apps and categories could potentially collide which could be confusing.

New AUBE update introducing new features!

Searching Made Easy ... and fast ! There is now a quick Search on the dashboard !

Simply tap the Quick Search textfield on the dashboard and enter your desired criteria – whether it's the group, category, feature, tag.

    Preview:

    Documentation

  • I'm probably really stupid but I can't figure out how this works. I'm in the search box of my DAW and type "reverb" for instance, then click to bring up the AUBE keyboard....and all of my apps are there and nothing is filtered. There is a blue magnifier button. I press that....nothing happens. I have no idea what I'm doing here, can anyone help?

    @FredAntonCorvest said:
Thank you for sharing the info!

First of all AUBE is dawn in French :) and also stands for Audio Unit Box Explorer

    Here some important precisions:

    • AUBE provides info about a lot of AuV3 available on the market, this is automatic (So "everything" already classified)
    • Any unknown audio units will be moved to the default group section, you can submit them via the page General
    • AUBE only lists the AuV3 available on the device on which it is installed
    • AUBE cannot access your App Store purchase history. It's restricted by Apple for obvious privacy and security reasons

So your audio units must be on the device to be detected a least the first time, like in any AuV3 host. For a possible future update I will probably enhance the audio unit loader to be able to verify if the AuV3 is still on the device or not (Not sure, I'm thinking out loud).

Don't forget that everything is sandboxed and restrictions are everywhere on iOS, this is especially true when you want to interact with existing apps. Having everything classified properly on a standalone app is super nice and exciting BUT how to put the extra FAC spices that come with all of my apps... How to use AUBE in my existing AuV3 hosts? Well by using the AUBE Keyboard extension! Use it in the search textfield in AUM, Loopy Pro, Drambo and locate your favorites AuV3! Of course some hosts does not provide a search textfield, and well, they should because it really speed up the locating process.

The release won't be long, I have to finalise some details. Be nice with the 1.0, bugs are always possible :) I will also provide a detailed documentation on my website and running an intro price.

Here the keyboard, works on iPhone as well of course.

Ohhh, I'm very concerned by the privacy policy on everything I do! So:

    • The AUBE Keyboard is running on restricted access mode and does not track your keystrokes (no text input involved)

  • @spiteface
There should be a little button along the far right edge, (looks kinda like the Spotify icon). This will let you filter by tag, like Reverb, but the tags are exclusive to the categories Effect and Instrument, so make sure you are browsing the Effects section. The tags seem a bit off for me. I have way more reverbs than listed, and some that do show up are amp sims. Maybe we have to set our own tags?

    This is phenomenal!

I can not only use abbreviations but even use several abbreviations at once.
Entering "rev cho fla" will list all apps that feature reverb, chorus and flanger

    Great work ! @FredAntonCorvest
This makes searching for features incredible fast end effective

Now ... this feature should be implemented in the AUBE keyboard 😏
Ok, maybe not possible because this would require a keyboard inside the AUBE keyboard.
Or it is possible and just a big challenge because of space and required redesign? 🤓 Maybe two switchable views?

I'm probably really stupid but I can't figure out how this works. I'm in the search box of my DAW and type "reverb" for instance, then click to bring up the AUBE keyboard....and all of my apps are there and nothing is filtered. There is a blue magnifier button. I press that....nothing happens. I have no idea what I'm doing here, can anyone help?

AUBE can't read what's in your DAW's search field. You use the AUBE "keyboard" to select the plugin you want, and it PASTES the name of it into your DAW's search field, which will then return the result. You then need to tap on the result to actually select it.

Edit: There's essentially no typing in the whole experience. As far as I can tell, the search icon toggles the type of result that's returned: either the name of the plugin (when "search" is on), which should be for the DAW's search field, or (when the search toggle is off) the App Store address of the plugin, which you'd use to share a plugin's details with someone else.
