I'm not convinced to get a move yet, i have push 3 controller and I'm concerned over this seemly strategic lack of parity between systems. this whole transfer your projects between system isn't aligned. one has 4 tracks, one 8 tracks, one has pitched pads on drum rack. just align it all.

Why make them all do the same stuff? This forces you to buy all of these products to do the unique things one doesn't offer :)

@AndyPlankton just to add the SP404mk2 is nice and compact, has great sampling time and many other uses. Way better for crafting a sample than the Circuit Rhythm (which I have) and has some wonderful fx and works well as an audio and midi hub for an iPad or iPhone.

I've always overlooked these, I have been put off by the 'calculator' vibe I get with the look of them. I'll definitley be checking these out in a bit more detail now though ;)

If I was in your situation of having to set up each time, I would trade it all in and use an MPC X se with a controller keyboard instead lol. Problem is that's an expensive one off outlay and a bit all eggs in one basket.

Thanks for the advice on the midi merge. Might make me rethink that to be honest - just not sure. I've been changing my mind so much

The alternative to using a MIDI merge is to use USB instead, hence my purchase of the CME USB Host device. The other advantage to this is less cables as you don't need the MIDI cables and any MIDI re-routing can be done in software so no need for accessing the back of the units and pulling cables :)

Does this necessitate the need for a computer? Beyond an iPad or iPhone of course.

Not for normal operation, but for setting up routing yes.

I'm computerless at this time lol. Plenty of tablet around the house (of the electronic variety). So problematic at times, because it's amazing how difficult it is to get some devices updated without either a PC or MAC.

  • I’ve been getting this lately when trying to open embedded video or when I search for videos using DuckDuckGo search. Is there a remedy?

  • Mine arrived today. It’s the best sampler I’ve ever used.

  • Just catching up here. This thing screams Circuit 3 at me all the time. Things like the inclusion of the arp as well as a more decent sound library makes it a great upgrade to Circuit Tracks I think. Of course the amount of storage as well as the built in mic are massive additions.

Since it is literally Circuit Tracks on steroids I can’t help but wondering what was Novation’s involvement here. The hardware looks very Novation. Knobs and pads from launch key mini mk 3, likely pressure pads from launchpads etc. I can see Tracks sales stopping completely…as well as sales of many posh options like opz slowing down too.

Looks like I should have checked first, you can configure it using iOS
"Master your MIDI setup with precision using the HxMIDI Tools software, available for macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS. Customize routing, apply intelligent MIDI filtering, and perform robust message remapping effortlessly."

The more I play with MOVE the more impressed I am.

The workflow of capturing automation, and then either applying, muting or deleting that automations is really smooth. A simple combo of button press and a tap on the encoders is really sweetly implemented.

Yes, MOVE has some control of desktop LIVE when connected, but I'm realising that the power of it's standalone mode is where it is really shining.

I'd like to see a few additions in the note editing such as being able to delete a specific Bar, and also a way to ratchet notes, but hopefully those are possible down the line.

Hey Dom, a few thoughts on this...

    • Yes the sounds on MOVE are great. I think the latest Circuits are cool feature-wise but I always found it hard to get sounds I really liked. A bit too 'glassy' for me.

    • The Arp on MOVE is very basic, maybe it'll get more control in later FW

    • I'd be pretty surprised if Novation had anything to do with MOVE

    • The knobs on MOVE are FAR superior to those on the Launchkey MK3 (and the MK4) Really slick and solid feel to them. Classy even!

    • I think Circuit Tracks and Rhythm have enough of their own tricks to not be too worried here. If anything, the public interest of MOVE could probably boost sales for Novation being as those Circuits are still very cool devices and around half the price.

I'll add one more thing here vs the Circuits,

    • Volume output on MOVE is very good. The Circuits are really very quiet, and always seem to need the volume at Max. Even then they seem quiet. Cool boxes though.
  • This thing is AMAZING

Am I right in thinking you can only make your own presets for Move if you have Ableton ?

Yeah I believe so. You can create presets for Drum Rack and Drift and import them into MOVE.

You wrap each device into an Instrument rack. Assign the 8 Macro controls with a couple of effects you want and then wrap them in another Instrument Rack. Save it as a Move-compatible preset and then import via Move Manager.

Unfortunately can't do this for Wavetable Presets just yet. Hopefully that comes in future.

  • They’ve said already that Wavetable can potentially be too CPU intensive to create presets in Live and then transfer to Move. The version in Move and Note is cut down feature wise for that reason.

Ah that’s a shame. Although having a vanilla template preset of a Move Compatible Wavetable with only the parameters available for customising would still be something. Even if the number of wavetables was limited and unavailable controls ‘greyed out’.

First impression after two hours playing with Move.

Construction quality is excellent. Miles ahead even from Elektron. The knobs are insanely good.

    Speaker, total garbage.

Sounds from factory, soo good. A lot of variety and quality.

    Workflow….THE WORKFLOW. Period.

I play the violin and the piano and this is to be played.

Finally, I found my place. This is it.

    Cool thanks.

My circuit is about to go on sale due to the lack of use but I doubt I’ll be buying move just yet. I already have an ultra portable Drambo/Loopy based set up that is vastly superior to this. One day though I’m sure I’ll pull the trigger, even if just to get some sonic inspiration.

  • Just arrived.

Amazing, so easy and intuitive. No need for a manual.

Sure! That’s a Manfrotto Pixi tripod. I drilled a hole in a wooden tongue-depressor (actually just one from a bag I got at the craft store) and screwed it on top. The mics are just clipped on with the supplied clothing clips.

I also added some cut sections of bike inner tube to the ends to help the clips grip better. You can extend it by slipping some more of the wooden strips into those inner tube sections.

  • I'm sure that the Move's CPU can easily handle the processing load for running Wavetable patches, so there might be a different reason if they don't want to support it.

  • edited October 2024

I’m sorry but that’s not correct, Wavetable patches can be MUCH more CPU intensive than Drift. The project lead for Move has stated this in the Sonic State preview for Move and during early testing. They wouldn’t be able to ensure you’d be able to use it on all four tracks in Move at once, which definitely something that they want to avoid as managing that kind of overhead goes against what Move was created for.

  • It’s crazy to watch someone who doesn’t do music learn how to use this thing in a couple of minutes and have something coherent going in a few more. There is definitely things it does that Note doesn’t by the way.

@Tarekith hey man, I know they are totally different beasts but how do you like working on this versus your op-z??

Move to me is more about the sounds and having a really nice playing surface to use while sequencing them. Intuitive workflow.

The Z is all about that crazy sequencer and having dedicated performance tools on hand. Really different use cases for me.
